DEHRADUN: With the southwest monsoon remaining active over Uttarakhand, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across several parts of the state, prompting authorities to issue weather warnings and precautionary measures.
An orange alert has been issued for nine districts, warning of intense rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Officials have advised residents to remain vigilant, particularly in areas vulnerable to landslides, flash floods and waterlogging.
In view of the adverse weather forecast, district administrations ordered the closure of schools in five districts as a safety measure. Educational institutions were directed to suspend classes for the day to minimise risks to students and staff amid the expected downpour.

The IMD has cautioned that heavy rainfall may lead to overflowing rivers and streams, disruption of road traffic, falling trees and temporary blockage of highways in hilly regions. Authorities have urged people to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in landslide-prone areas, and to closely follow official advisories.
Disaster management agencies, including the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and district administrations, have been placed on alert to respond to any weather-related emergencies. Officials said rescue teams and essential equipment have been kept ready for deployment if required.
The weather department has advised tourists, pilgrims and local residents to exercise caution while travelling through the hill districts, as continuous rainfall could trigger landslides and affect transportation. People living near rivers and low-lying areas have also been asked to remain alert and monitor weather updates issued by the authorities.
The latest forecast indicates that monsoon activity is likely to remain vigorous over Uttarakhand in the coming days, with intermittent spells of heavy rain expected in several districts, keeping disaster response agencies on high alert.
