DEHRADUN: In a significant move to strengthen professional communication, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the 47th All India Public Relations Conference in Dehradun on Saturday. The three-day national PR conference began today and will continue till December 15, bringing together public relations professionals from across the country and abroad.
The Chief Minister formally inaugurated the conference by lighting the ceremonial lamp. He also visited a photo exhibition and inspected stalls displaying local handicrafts, appreciating the efforts of artisans and self help groups from Uttarakhand.
Addressing the gathering, Dhami said, “Public relations today is not limited to information sharing. It plays a decisive role in building trust between the government and citizens.” He said that accurate, timely and responsible communication has become essential in an era of rapid information flow and misinformation.
Our correspondent reports that the conference is being organised by the Public Relations Society of India on the theme Developed India at 2047 Growth and Heritage. The event includes technical sessions on media ethics, digital communication, artificial intelligence, cyber security, crisis communication and international public relations practices.
Our correspondent adds that delegates from government departments, public sector undertakings, private organisations, academic institutions and media houses are participating in the conference. Representatives from Russia are also attending, adding an international dimension to the discussions.
Dhami said that the theme of the conference aligned with the national vision of Viksit Bharat. He said, “Effective public communication is essential for development to reach the last mile. Without meaningful dialogue, policies cannot achieve their intended impact.” He stressed that public relations professionals must remain sensitive to social values, cultural roots and public sentiment.
The Chief Minister said that in a state like Uttarakhand, which faces frequent natural disasters and hosts large numbers of pilgrims and tourists, communication plays a critical role in governance. He said public relations systems must be fast, technology enabled and grounded in credibility, especially during emergencies.
Our correspondent reports that Dhami highlighted ongoing development work in Uttarakhand under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He referred to progress in road, rail, air connectivity, education, health and drinking water infrastructure. He also mentioned major projects including the Rishikesh Karnaprayag rail line, the Delhi Dehradun expressway and new ropeway projects.
Our correspondent adds that the Chief Minister said Uttarakhand is being developed as a global destination for religious tourism, wellness, adventure tourism, film shooting and destination weddings. He said winter tourism initiatives and improved infrastructure are helping extend the tourism season throughout the year.
Dhami said that state initiatives such as One District Two Products, House of Himalayas and the State Millet Mission are strengthening local livelihoods. He said transparent governance, investment friendly policies and a single window system have improved investor confidence and boosted economic growth.
He expressed confidence that deliberations at the conference would help redefine the role of public relations in nation building. He said the ideas emerging from Devbhoomi Uttarakhand would contribute meaningfully to the journey towards Developed India at 2047.
Several dignitaries attended the inaugural session, including Rajya Sabha MP Naresh Bansal, Cabinet Minister Ganesh Joshi, Parmarth Niketan head Swami Chidanand Muni, PRSI National President Ajit Pathak and PRSI Dehradun Chapter President Ravi Bijarniya.
