Uttarakhand on High Alert

Following the car explosion near the Red Fort in Delhi, Uttarakhand Police have been placed on high alert across the state. The directive was issued by Director General of Police (DGP) Abhinav Kumar in view of the seriousness of the incident and the need for enhanced vigilance.

According to an official statement from the State Police Headquarters in Dehradun, all districts have been instructed to strengthen security measures and intensify checking at international and inter-state borders, as well as at sensitive, religious, and crowded locations including markets, bus stations, railway stations, and shopping complexes.

The DGP has directed district police chiefs and officers to maintain extra vigilance and increase patrolling, especially in public areas and routes with high footfall. Strict checking of vehicles, identity verification of commuters, and monitoring of hotels and lodges have been made mandatory.

Police sources informed that all Cheeta mobile units, patrol vehicles, Bomb Disposal Squads, and Dog Squads have been activated throughout the state. These specialised units have begun intensive checking and search operations in vulnerable areas to ensure public safety.

The statement said that the Police Headquarters Control Room is closely monitoring all activities and maintaining continuous coordination with the districts. Reports on law and order situations are being sent to the headquarters at regular intervals.

The DGP has also instructed officers to monitor social media platforms for misinformation and rumours. He directed immediate action against any attempt to spread panic or false news.

Appealing for public cooperation, the DGP said, “Citizens should remain calm and not pay attention to rumours. Any suspicious person, object, or activity should be immediately reported to the nearest police station or through Dial 112.”

He further said that ensuring the safety of every citizen remains the top priority of Uttarakhand Police. “The state police is maintaining strict vigilance to safeguard public life and property,” he added.

Security has been stepped up particularly in Dehradun, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Nainital, and Haldwani, with additional deployment of personnel in sensitive zones. Barricades have been set up at several checkpoints, and random vehicle inspections are being conducted across highways and entry routes.

Intelligence teams have also been asked to stay in close coordination with central security agencies to share inputs related to interstate movement and possible threats.

Officials said that all police control rooms have been instructed to ensure 24-hour response capability and maintain readiness for any emergency. The heightened alert will continue until further orders from the state headquarters.

The police have urged citizens to cooperate with checking drives and remain patient during security procedures. Public safety, the statement reiterated, is a shared responsibility between the administration and the people.
