In an effort to promote awareness about recent tax reforms and encourage the use of local products, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday led a Goods and Services Tax (GST) awareness rally in the main market area of Champawat. The event aimed to educate traders and the public about the revised GST rates and to highlight the importance of supporting indigenous goods for economic self-reliance.

Our correspondent reports that the Chief Minister walked through the crowded market streets, interacting with traders and local residents. During the rally, he informed participants about the reduction in GST slabs announced by the central government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Dhami explained that the new structure aims to make taxation simpler, more transparent, and beneficial for the common people.

The Chief Minister visited several local establishments, including Tiwari Sweets, Chaudhary Vastra Bhandar, and Prakash Tiwari’s General Store near the bus station, where he engaged directly with shop owners. He discussed the impact of the revised tax rates and sought their feedback on how the changes were being received by consumers.

Our correspondent adds that Chief Minister Dhami urged traders to play an active role in spreading awareness about the new GST slabs. He said that consumers should be informed about the lower rates so that they can benefit fully from the government’s decision. He emphasised that the relief provided through reduced tax rates would help revive small businesses, boost local trade, and strengthen the state’s economy.

Dhami described the reforms as part of the “Next Generation GST”, which aims to create a more efficient and consumer-friendly taxation system. He expressed confidence that these measures would provide significant financial relief to ordinary citizens and help improve overall business conditions in the state.

The Chief Minister also used the occasion to deliver a strong message about the importance of Swadeshi (indigenous) products. He appealed to traders and residents alike to prioritise locally made goods over imported alternatives. Dhami said that supporting Swadeshi products is not only vital for economic stability but also a powerful way to contribute to the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India).

He urged shopkeepers to stock, promote, and sell products made by local artisans, farmers, and small-scale manufacturers. He said that strengthening domestic industries would directly benefit Uttarakhand’s rural economy and help generate employment opportunities across the state.

Our correspondent reports that the Chief Minister’s visit drew a positive response from the market community. Traders welcomed the government’s efforts to make GST more practical and citizen-friendly. They also appreciated Dhami’s personal outreach and commitment to addressing local concerns.

Dhami assured participants that the state government will continue to take steps to simplify trade regulations and improve communication between businesses and authorities. He said that Uttarakhand’s economic growth depends on collaboration between government, traders, and consumers, built on trust and shared responsibility.

The Chief Minister reiterated that giving preference to local and indigenous products is not just an economic measure but also an expression of national pride. He said that every citizen can play a part in strengthening India’s economy by choosing Swadeshi goods and promoting self-reliance at both individual and community levels.

The rally concluded with the Chief Minister’s appeal for unity and awareness. He encouraged people to remain informed about policy changes and to actively support initiatives that benefit small traders and local producers.
