In a significant outreach initiative, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami interacted with social media in-charges and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers in Nainital on Sunday evening, emphasising the importance of self-reliance and indigenous products. The interaction took place during a seminar on the theme “Atmanirbhar Bharat Aur Swadeshi Sankalp” (Self-Reliant India and Swadeshi Resolution).
Our correspondent reports that the Chief Minister appealed to all participants to adopt more indigenous products in their daily lives and make the concept of “Vocal for Local” a personal mission. He said that self-reliance was not just an economic goal but a collective national responsibility aimed at strengthening India’s identity on the global stage.
During his address, CM Dhami highlighted that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India was advancing rapidly towards self-sufficiency. He remarked that the country, which once depended on imports for essential goods, is now exporting the very items it once sourced from abroad. This, he said, was a testament to India’s growing confidence and industrial capability.
“Our nation, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is moving swiftly towards self-reliance. The products we once imported are now being exported by India. Through our collective determination, we are contributing meaningfully to the realisation of an Atmanirbhar Bharat,” the Chief Minister stated.
Our correspondent adds that CM Dhami also underlined the government’s vision of building an Atmanirbhar Uttarakhand (Self-Reliant Uttarakhand) as a vital component of the national mission. He said that state initiatives focused on local entrepreneurship, rural industries, and traditional crafts are helping strengthen the economic foundation of the hill state.
Participants at the discussion included district-level social media coordinators, BJP communication team members, and youth representatives from various constituencies. They pledged to spread awareness about indigenous products, promote local manufacturing, and encourage community-level adoption of the Vocal for Local campaign.
The Chief Minister further urged citizens to prefer locally made items over foreign brands, noting that every small act of buying Indian-made goods contributes to national growth. “Self-reliance begins at home,” he said, calling for an attitudinal shift where consumers actively support domestic production chains.
Our correspondent reports that the event was marked by interactive exchanges between attendees and senior party officials, where participants shared success stories of small businesses that had benefitted from local sourcing and government support.
CM Dhami’s message comes as part of a broader movement to strengthen the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, launched nationally to boost indigenous industries and reduce dependence on imports. The campaign also aligns with Uttarakhand’s push to develop local tourism, handicrafts, and agro-based enterprises that empower self-employment.
The Chief Minister concluded his remarks by expressing confidence that Uttarakhand’s citizens will continue to lead by example in embracing self-reliance and sustaining the spirit of Swadeshi in every sphere of life.
