In a shocking incident in Kankhal, Haridwar, a young man was shot dead in the evening under mysterious circumstances on Monday. The police have initiated investigations and detained several suspects to uncover the motive behind the killing.
Our correspondent reports that around 7:45 pm, two individuals lured Sumit Choudhary, aged 18, to a park in Dayal Enclave Colony of the Kankhal police area. There, they allegedly shot him in the chest. His companions rushed him to Bhum Anand Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. Witnesses say that after the medical staff confirmed his death, those who brought him escaped the premises.
Officials were alerted immediately, and Senior Superintendent of Police Pramendra Singh Dobal, SP City Pankaj Gairola, and CO City Shishupal Singh Negi along with Kankhal police reached the hospital to examine the situation. Initial findings suggest the gunshot wound was on the left side of the chest. The body has been sent to the district mortuary for post-mortem.
Our correspondent adds that Sumit, son of Pawan, originally hails from Jamalpur Kala, and his family is reportedly based in Uttar Pradesh. He had been residing in Kankhal in recent years. The hospital administration informed police immediately after Sumit was brought in, and law enforcement personnel have secured the site to gather evidence. Investigators are examining CCTV footage, bullet casings and interviewing residents near the site of the crime.
