Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Dehradun on Thurday, to review the flood situation in the state. According to the official schedule, the Prime Minister will undertake an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas around 4:15 PM, followed by a high-level review meeting with state officials at 5 PM.
The visit comes at a critical time when Uttarakhand has faced extensive damage during this year’s monsoon. Continuous rainfall, flash floods, and landslides have disrupted life across several districts, causing loss of life and heavy damage to infrastructure, agriculture, and livelihoods. The state government has already requested significant central assistance to carry out relief and rehabilitation efforts.
Officials said the Prime Minister’s aerial survey will provide him with a first-hand assessment of the scale of destruction. Roads, bridges, and rail tracks have been damaged in several places, while villages in hilly regions remain cut off due to landslides. The floods have also affected power and drinking water supplies in multiple districts.
The high-level meeting in Dehradun will focus on immediate relief measures, long-term rehabilitation of affected families, and steps to strengthen disaster preparedness. Special emphasis is expected to be placed on building resilient infrastructure, improving early-warning systems, and ensuring timely supply of essential commodities to remote areas during natural calamities.
Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister will host the visiting Prime Minister of Mauritius, Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, in Varanasi as part of his state visit to India. The two leaders will hold bilateral discussions before PM Modi departs for Uttarakhand.
The Prime Minister’s visit is being seen as a strong signal of the Centre’s support to the state during this challenging period. With heavy rains continuing in parts of the hill state, authorities remain on high alert for possible fresh landslides and rising river levels.
