The Uttarakhand government has approved a 10% horizontal reservation for retired Agniveers in Group C posts across the state’s police, fire, and forest services. Our correspondent reports that this move recognizes the contribution of Agniveers and provides them with a clear pathway to secure employment after their service period.
Boost to Employment Opportunities
Our correspondent adds that the reservation will apply uniformly in all recruitment drives for Group C uniformed services. State officials confirmed that detailed guidelines are being framed to ensure smooth implementation.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said the policy reflects Uttarakhand’s commitment to support the youth who have served the nation with dedication. He added that such steps would also strengthen the state’s police and security apparatus with disciplined and trained manpower.
Background
The Agnipath scheme was introduced by the central government in 2022, allowing young men and women to serve in the armed forces for four years as Agniveers, after which a section of them are absorbed into regular service. Others are encouraged to pursue civilian opportunities with skills and experience gained.
