In Hyderabad, over 2 lakh Ganesh idols in varying hues and sizes were immersed in various lakes as the annual religious event passed off peacefully.

This included immersions in Hussain Sagar Lake, other lakes, and artificial ponds specifically created for this purpose. Currently, about 15,000 Municipal and sanitation workers are involved in the massive clean-up operation at Hussain Sagar and all other immersion locations. Traffic is expected to return to normal on the procession routes from this morning. The Hussain Sagar Lake in the heart of Hyderabad witnessed thousands of footfalls as vehicles carrying Vinayaka idols queued up for immersion.

The Khairatabad 69 ft-tall Maha Ganesh idol was immersed in the Hussain Sagar in the afternoon yesterday after it was taken out in a Shobha Yatra. The ‘laddu prasadam’ at the famous Balapur Ganesh pandal was auctioned for Thirty Five crore rupees.

In another auction, one of the residents of Keerthi Richmond Villas in Bandlaguda paid 2.32 crore rupees for Laddu Prasadam. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who visited the Tank Bund of Hussain Sagar Lake, directed the officials to work in coordination till the immersion process concludes. State Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, DGP Dr Jitender and other officials undertook an aerial survey of the immersion procession routes.
