Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami participated in the Dehradun Literature Festival on Saturday at Doon International School on Mohini Road, where he released the book Leading Ladies of India written by Venu Agrahara Dhingra. The event drew authors, students and members of the literary community, marking a significant moment for cultural and literary dialogue in the city.

Our correspondent reports that while addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister emphasised the importance of literature in shaping social awareness. “Literature is a powerful medium that expresses emotions, thoughts and experiences, and it plays a vital role in social and cultural consciousness,” he said. He expressed hope that the newly released book would encourage readers, particularly women, to move forward with confidence.

The Chief Minister underlined the state government’s ongoing efforts towards women empowerment. Our correspondent adds that he highlighted several initiatives aimed at improving economic opportunities for women across Uttarakhand. “Under the guidance of the Prime Minister, our government is consistently working to strengthen women. Self-help groups led by women are producing high-quality goods that are now in great demand across the state.”

He added that progress in society depends on the strength and participation of women. “The overall development of any society is not possible without empowered women. Today, daughters of Uttarakhand are excelling in every field and making the state proud.”

The Chief Minister said that the cultural identity of Uttarakhand continues to inspire the state’s development approach. He stated that the government remains committed to preserving local traditions and ensuring that cultural heritage is carried forward for future generations. He added that the state’s artistic and cultural ecosystem is being strengthened to promote community participation.

During his address, the Chief Minister also spoke about the annual Pravasi Uttarakhandi Conference being organised for the past two years. The event aims to reconnect people with their roots. Officials said that after attending the conference, several non-resident Uttarakhandis have expressed a desire to contribute to the development of their native villages and the state.

The session concluded with participation from prominent guests, including Mrs Geeta Pushkar Dhami, Principal Secretary R. K. Sudhanshu, Doon International School Group founder D. S. Mann and other dignitaries. They welcomed the release of the book and acknowledged the festival’s contribution to literary engagement in the state.
