Five Bharatiya Janata Party BJP MLAs have been suspended today from the Legislative Assembly in Kolkata over the issue of alleged atrocities on Bengali-speaking migrant labourers in other states.

When Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was speaking on the issue of alleged atrocities on Bengali-speaking migrant labourers, BJP MLAs led by chief whip Shankar Ghosh and Agnimitra Paul raised their voice against the suspension of Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari. Ruling Trinamool Congress MLAs started sloganeering over the BJP MLAs.
Speaker Biman Bandopadhyay suspended BJP MLAs Shankar Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Mihir Goswami, Ashok Dinda and Bankim Ghosh. Skirmishes followed between BJP MLAs and marshals when the latter came to evict the suspended MLAs forcefully.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister and Leader of the House Mamata Banerjee accused BJP of preventing her from speaking in the Assembly. Mamata Banerjee informed the house, 24 thousand migrant labourers brought back in West Bengal out of 22 lakhs labourers.
