DEHRADUN: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday visited Max Hospital in Dehradun to enquire about the health of Himmat Singh, father of noted Uttarakhand folk singer Govind Digari. The elderly patient has been undergoing treatment for health complications for the past few days. The Chief Minister spent time with the family, spoke to doctors overseeing the treatment and directed hospital authorities to ensure that all required medical support is provided without delay.
Our correspondent reports that the Chief Minister reached the hospital in the afternoon and was briefed by the medical team about the patient’s condition, ongoing diagnostic procedures and the line of treatment. The doctors conveyed that Himmat Singh is under close observation and receiving specialised care. After interacting with the team, the Chief Minister said, “I have instructed the hospital to ensure the best possible treatment. The government stands firmly with artists and their families in every situation.”
The Chief Minister later met folk singer Govind Digari and other family members who were present at the hospital. Offering reassurance, he said, “Your father is receiving the highest level of care. We pray for his swift recovery. You have carried the pride of Uttarakhand’s music to countless listeners, and the state values your contribution.”
Govind Digari, known for his deep connection to Uttarakhand’s folk traditions, has popularised several regional compositions inspired by Garhwali and Kumaoni culture. His songs on local festivals, village life, heritage pathways and traditional rhythms have earned him recognition across the state. Our correspondent adds that Digari’s music has been widely used in cultural events, community gatherings and state-sponsored programmes promoting Uttarakhand’s folk identity. The singer expressed gratitude for the Chief Minister’s visit and said, “This support means a lot to us during a difficult time. We are thankful to the government for standing with our family.”
In a brief interaction, the Chief Minister recalled how folk music and performing arts remain central to Uttarakhand’s cultural fabric. He emphasised the government’s commitment to supporting artists, especially those who keep traditional forms alive. “Our folk artists are the custodians of our heritage. Their contribution strengthens cultural continuity and inspires future generations,” he said.
Hospital officials told the Chief Minister that all necessary facilities, monitoring systems and specialist consultations have been arranged for the patient. They added that the medical team is working round the clock to stabilise his condition. A hospital spokesperson said, “We appreciate the honourable Chief Minister’s concern. The patient is under expert supervision and we are ensuring comprehensive care.”
Locals and members of the cultural fraternity have also expressed concern and sent messages of support. Several admirers of Govind Digari noted that the singer has long been a representative voice of the hills and that the state’s music community stands with him. A senior folk musician from Dehradun remarked, “Govind Digari has carried Uttarakhand’s melodies far and wide. In moments like these, the cultural community unites in prayer.”
The Chief Minister reiterated that the state remains sensitive to the needs of artists and recognises their role in shaping Uttarakhand’s identity. “Our artistic traditions are living treasures. It is our duty to honour and support those who preserve them,” he said while leaving the hospital premises.
He also assured the family that further assistance, if needed, would be arranged promptly. The government is expected to follow up with the hospital for health updates and ensure continuity of support.
The visit has drawn positive reactions from cultural groups, who praised the Chief Minister’s gesture and highlighted the importance of institutional support for artists. Many noted that Uttarakhand’s folk heritage thrives because of individuals like Govind Digari and that public acknowledgement of their families fosters a stronger cultural environment.
As treatment continues, family members said they are hopeful about Himmat Singh’s recovery and are deeply thankful for the prayers and encouragement received from across the state.
