In a significant administrative reshuffle, the government has transferred 16 IPS officers and 8 PPS officers, including Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) from four key districts. The large-scale changes aim to strengthen the state’s law enforcement leadership and enhance coordination across districts.

Our correspondent reports that the transfers, approved by the Home Department on Monday night, took immediate effect. The order includes both field postings and departmental reassignments at the police headquarters in Dehradun. Among the prominent changes, Manjunath T.C. has been appointed SSP Nainital, while Sarvesh Panwar has been posted as SSP Pauri Garhwal.

Our correspondent adds that ADG Dr P.V.K. Prasad has been relieved of his post as Director, Prosecution, and will now serve as Commandant General, Home Guards. Similarly, ADG A.P. Anshuman has been given additional charge of Intelligence and Security. The changes reflect the government’s focus on boosting efficiency and accountability at both operational and administrative levels.

According to officials, the reshuffle was planned to ensure rotation of leadership and bring renewed momentum to the state’s policing structure. The government has directed all transferred officers to assume charge immediately and submit compliance reports to the Home Department.

Our correspondent reports that SSP Prahlad Narayan, previously posted in Nainital, has been transferred to SP Vigilance Headquarters, while Yashwant Singh has been assigned command of the 31st Battalion PAC. These transfers are viewed as an effort to position experienced officers in strategic law enforcement roles.

Within the police headquarters, several senior officers have also been reassigned. IG Dr Nilesh Anand Bharne has been appointed Director Forensic, replacing his earlier law-and-order portfolio. IG Vimmi Sachdeva, previously handling Human Rights, will now continue exclusively with headquarters duties. These moves aim to align specialisations with evolving administrative and operational needs.

Our correspondent adds that the reshuffle extends beyond district leadership, affecting postings in Haridwar, Chamoli, Uttarkashi, and Almora. The government intends to distribute experienced officers evenly across regions to improve law enforcement capacity and ensure quicker response in field operations.

Officials said that the changes are part of a routine process to enhance efficiency, prevent stagnation, and introduce fresh perspectives in district policing. However, some officers have privately expressed concern over the timing, given ongoing festival security and administrative duties.

The Home Department has clarified that the reshuffle was long overdue and necessary to ensure robust leadership across the state. It stated that periodic transfers maintain organisational health and prevent administrative complacency.

Our correspondent reports that police headquarters will closely monitor the implementation of the transfer orders and evaluate the performance of newly appointed officers over the next few weeks. The focus will remain on improving law-and-order management, crime prevention, and community policing.

This reshuffle marks one of the most extensive administrative changes in the state police this year. It underscores the government’s commitment to maintaining transparency, discipline, and effectiveness in the functioning of law enforcement agencies.
