A shocking incident unfolded at Guru Nanak School, Kashipur, on Wednesday afternoon when a Class 9 student opened fire on his teacher during class hours, sending panic across the campus. The teacher, Gagan Singh, sustained a bullet injury to his right shoulder and was rushed to a private hospital, where doctors said his condition is now stable.
The Incident According to eyewitness accounts, the shooting occurred soon after the third period. Gagan Singh, who has been teaching at the school for 15 years, had just finished a lesson when the student, a resident of Guljarpur, suddenly pulled out a .315 bore country-made pistol from his school bag and fired at him. Though Singh attempted to shield himself, the bullet struck his shoulder. Alarmed teachers and students rushed to the classroom and immediately transported the injured teacher to hospital.
Motive Behind the Attack Preliminary investigations suggest the attack was motivated by anger and resentment. On Monday, the teacher had allegedly slapped the student despite him answering a question correctly, an act that deeply humiliated him. Determined to “teach a lesson,” the boy reportedly took the pistol from his home, concealed it in a tiffin cover, and brought it to school on Wednesday before carrying out the attack.
Police and Forensic Investigation Local police arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and reviewed the school’s CCTV footage, which confirmed the student’s role in the shooting. The accused was overpowered by staff and handed over to police. A forensic team collected evidence from the classroom as part of the investigation. Authorities are now probing how the minor obtained access to the firearm.
