Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami conducted a detailed review of the Sharda Corridor Development Project in Khatima in Uddham Singh district on Monday, emphasising that all construction and development activities must align with public sentiment and local faith. The ambitious project, estimated at around ₹3300 crore, aims to transform the region into a centre of faith, culture, and prosperity.

Our correspondent reports that the review meeting was held at the Chief Minister’s camp office in Lohiyahhead, where he directed officials to execute all works with transparency, quality, and timeliness. The project covers an area of approximately 200 square kilometres and seeks to enhance the region’s religious, cultural, tourism, and environmental significance.

According to officials, the plan includes 38 major components under development. These involve the redevelopment of Sharda Ghat, creation of a city drainage plan, revival of the Rankochi Mata Temple, construction of a heliport at Banbasa, establishment of a mountain biking trail from Chuka to Chalti, development of an international border market, beautification of the Sharda Riverfront, and the introduction of aero sports facilities.

Our correspondent adds that the Chief Minister stressed the need for speedy land acquisition and transfer, directing officials to prioritise all pending clearances. He instructed the executing agency to establish a local project office in the area to ensure coordination and prevent unnecessary delays.

The Chief Minister reiterated that environmental protection must remain a top priority in all construction activities. He also directed that every design and structure reflect the traditional culture and architectural heritage of the region. Officials were further instructed to ensure that the development work enhances both aesthetic appeal and ecological balance.

Our correspondent reports that the Chief Minister highlighted future plans to develop the Vivekananda Circuit in Lohaghat and Maa Varahi Dham as a spiritual zone. He also proposed developing the region as a destination wedding hub and establishing a ‘Shaurya Sthal’ to honour soldiers, police, and paramilitary martyrs. These initiatives, he said, would strengthen local identity while promoting tourism and cultural harmony.

Officials informed the Chief Minister that groundwork on the project has begun and that efforts are being made to expedite its implementation. The project is expected to create local employment opportunities, attract tourism investment, and elevate Tanakpur’s spiritual and cultural prominence.

Our correspondent adds that CM Dhami underscored the project’s dual purpose — to preserve Tanakpur’s spiritual, cultural, and historical heritage while ensuring modern development and environmental sustainability. He stated that the Sharda Corridor would become a symbol of devotion, culture, and prosperity, reflecting the collective aspirations of the people.

The meeting was attended by Minister of State Anil Kapoor (Dabbu), Special Secretary and Joint MD UIDB Ajay Mishra, Champawat District Magistrate Manish Kumar, Udham Singh Nagar District Magistrate Nitin Singh Bhadauria, Additional District Magistrate Krishna Nath Goswami, Chief Development Officer Dr G.S. Khati, and several other senior officials. A large number of local residents were also present.
