In a historic milestone, the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly will host a special two-day session on November 3 and 4 to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of the state’s formation, marking 25 years since its establishment in 2000. The session will feature a special address by President Draupadi Murmu, making it one of the most significant ceremonial events in the state’s legislative history.
Our correspondent reports that the two-day session will be held in Dehradun, where both the ruling and opposition parties will participate in deliberations on the state’s journey over the past 25 years and the roadmap for its future. The occasion is being viewed as an opportunity to reflect on Uttarakhand’s progress in governance, infrastructure, social welfare, education, and disaster management.
The President of India, Draupadi Murmu, is expected to deliver the keynote address, highlighting the state’s contribution to national development, its cultural identity, and the resilience of its people. Her visit will mark the first time a sitting President has addressed a special anniversary session of the Uttarakhand Assembly.
Our correspondent adds that extensive preparations are underway to make the session both commemorative and forward-looking. The Assembly secretariat has begun finalising the schedule and seating arrangements for dignitaries, ministers, and invited guests. Senior officials of the Governor’s Secretariat and the Chief Minister’s Office are coordinating security and protocol arrangements in consultation with the President’s office.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the Silver Jubilee session will be an occasion of pride for every citizen of Uttarakhand. He added that the government will present a vision document outlining the next 25 years of the state’s growth under the theme of “Strong, Self-Reliant Uttarakhand.” The focus, he said, will be on sustainable development, youth empowerment, and expanding opportunities in tourism, education, and industry.
Opposition leaders have also welcomed the announcement but indicated they will use the occasion to raise issues related to unemployment, healthcare, migration, and environmental challenges in hill districts. The session is therefore expected to feature a mix of celebration and serious policy debate.
Our correspondent reports that the Assembly complex is being spruced up for the event, with arrangements for a special exhibition showcasing 25 years of Uttarakhand’s legislative and administrative achievements. The exhibition will feature archival photographs, documents, and audiovisual presentations depicting the state’s journey from its creation in 2000 to its present status as a fast-developing Himalayan region.
Officials said the two-day session will begin with the Governor’s address, followed by President Murmu’s speech on the first day. The second day will include discussions by members on various aspects of development, governance, and regional issues. A commemorative souvenir and a postal cover are also being planned to mark the occasion.
Special security measures will be in place in and around the Assembly premises during the President’s visit. Dehradun police and the Special Protection Group (SPG) have already begun coordination meetings to ensure a smooth and secure event.
The government has also decided to hold cultural programmes and felicitation ceremonies to honour individuals who have contributed significantly to Uttarakhand’s formation and development over the past 25 years. Representatives from various districts, social organisations, and educational institutions are expected to attend the proceedings.
Our correspondent adds that this Silver Jubilee celebration carries deep emotional and political significance for the people of Uttarakhand, many of whom participated in the statehood movement in the late 1990s. The event will serve both as a remembrance of that struggle and a reaffirmation of the state’s commitment to progress and inclusivity.
Officials confirmed that elaborate arrangements for the President’s reception, public address, and state banquet are being finalised. Invitations have been extended to former Chief Ministers, Assembly Speakers, and Members of Parliament from Uttarakhand, who are expected to attend the historic session.
