The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for eight districts of Uttarakhand as the monsoon continues to bring unsettled conditions across the state.

Our correspondent reports that Uttarkashi, Nainital, Champawat, Bageshwar, Udham Singh Nagar, Pauri, Almora, and Pithoragarh districts are expected to witness heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning. The alert is valid for the next 24 hours and will be updated daily based on changing weather conditions.

According to the IMD, while the eight districts remain under special watch, the remaining districts of the state may also experience moderate to very heavy showers along with thunder and lightning at isolated places.

Our correspondent adds that residents and tourists have been advised to remain cautious, particularly in hilly areas prone to landslides, flash floods, and falling debris during intense downpours.

On Thursday, Dehradun witnessed a humid morning, followed by showers in the afternoon, before conditions normalized by evening. Cloud cover and fluctuating temperatures added to the discomfort in several areas.

On Thursday, Dehradun recorded a maximum temperature of 33°C and a minimum of 22.5°C, while Pantnagar reported 35.6°C as maximum and 24.6°C as minimum.
In the hill stations, Mukteshwar registered 22.8°C maximum and 14.4°C minimum, whereas New Tehri recorded 24°C maximum and 14.8°C minimum.

Meanwhile, local authorities have urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel in vulnerable areas, keep a check on weather bulletins, and follow safety measures. The IMD has also asked local administrations to remain on alert to handle any emergencies arising from heavy rainfall.
