On the occasion of the birth anniversary of legendary musician and cultural icon Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Monday paid heartfelt tribute through a post on X, acknowledging Hazarika’s unparalleled contributions to music, art, and Indian cultural heritage.
In his message, Dhami wrote: “संगीत एवं कला जगत में विशिष्ट योगदान देने वाले ‘भारत रत्न’ भूपेन हजारिका जी की जयंती पर कोटिशः नमन। आपके योगदान से भारतीय संगीत और असम की सांस्कृतिक धरोहर को विश्वव्यापी गौरव प्राप्त हुआ।” (“Heartfelt salutations on the birth anniversary of ‘Bharat Ratna’ Bhupen Hazarika ji, who made a distinctive contribution to the world of music and art. Born in 1926, Bhupen Hazarika was not only a celebrated singer and composer but also a poet, filmmaker, and social reformer whose works carried deep messages of unity, humanity, and cultural pride. His songs, rooted in Assamese folk traditions and enriched by universal themes, transcended regional boundaries and touched audiences across India and the world.
Hazarika’s contribution was recognised with the nation’s highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna, in 2019. He is remembered for masterpieces such as Bistirno Parore and his Hindi compositions that bridged cultures and languages, making him a unifying figure in India’s artistic landscape.
