In a move to assess the damage caused by incessant rains, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday visited the rain-affected areas of Maldevta and Kesarwala in Dehradun district. He carried out an on-site inspection and directed officials to intensify relief and rescue efforts. During the visit, Dhami observed that heavy rainfall had severely damaged roads, bridges, and public property in several parts of the state. He highlighted that such widespread destruction has disrupted daily life for thousands. The Chief Minister instructed district authorities to restore blocked roads at the earliest and ensure uninterrupted supply of safe drinking water and electricity. Our correspondent adds that Dhami stressed the need for speedy rehabilitation measures to bring normalcy back to affected communities.
Dhami emphasized that government and administrative teams are working on the ground round the clock. “All departments are coordinating closely to ensure relief, rescue, and rehabilitation,” he noted. He also warned that with rivers flowing above normal levels, strict disaster preparedness is required. Our correspondent reports that he is personally reviewing updates from the State Disaster Operations Centre and keeping constant contact with district magistrates.
Officials accompanying the Chief Minister briefed him on ongoing efforts, including debris clearance, road connectivity restoration, and support for families affected by the heavy rains. Our correspondent adds that Dhami instructed officers to treat every complaint from citizens as a priority and ensure no family is left without assistance.
The Chief Minister was joined by Doiwala MLA Umesh Sharma ‘Kau’, Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey, Inspector General Rajeev Swaroop, Additional Secretary Banshidhar Tiwari, and senior district administration officials. Local residents welcomed the Chief Minister’s presence, expressing hope that the government’s swift intervention would lead to quicker recovery.
Dhami concluded by assuring that the government’s focus is not only on immediate relief but also on long-term rebuilding of infrastructure, including roads and public facilities, to minimize the impact of future disasters.
