In a congratulatory message, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami praised the Indian cricket team for winning the Asia Cup final against Pakistan in Dubai on Sunday 28 September 2025, saying the result reflected national pride and persistence. He wrote that India had prevailed before and continued to prevail today, and sent best wishes to the players.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also applauded the team, likening the contest to Operation Sindoor and noting that the outcome was the same with India victorious. President Droupadi Murmu conveyed her greetings and wished the side continued success.

India won the title by five wickets with two balls remaining after chasing a target of 147 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Tilak Varma guided the pursuit with an unbeaten 69 from 53 balls, first steadying the chase with Sanju Samson and then adding a crucial stand with Shivam Dube to close out the match.

Earlier, India chose to field and Pakistan reached a strong position at 113 for 1 before a collapse left them all out for 146 in the final over. Kuldeep Yadav led the bowling with 4 for 30, while Jasprit Bumrah, Varun Chakravarthy and Axar Patel shared important wickets to turn the innings in India’s favour.

India’s reply was rocked early at 20 for 3 in the fourth over, but Varma and Samson rebuilt before Dube’s arrival shifted momentum decisively. India reached 150 for 5 to seal a record extending ninth Asia Cup crown and a second title in the T20 format, underlining the depth and composure of a side that remained unbeaten through the tournament.

The closing moments were notable beyond the cricket. Reports suggest that the presentation ceremony was curtailed amid tensions, with the Indian camp declining to receive the trophy from the Asian Cricket Council president, who also serves as Pakistan’s interior minister. The team instead celebrated on the field after individual awards.

Across Indian cities and among expatriate fans in the United Arab Emirates, celebrations broke out as supporters waved the tricolour and hailed a final that extended India’s perfect record against Pakistan in this edition. For emerging batter Tilak Varma, the unbeaten half century and calm finish added another landmark to a breakthrough year, while Kuldeep Yadav’s spell reaffirmed his growing influence in white ball cricket.

Leaders and former players said the result sets a positive tone for India’s upcoming international calendar. With a measured chase under pressure, incisive spin and disciplined death bowling, the champions demonstrated a balanced template that will serve them well in the months ahead.
