In a vibrant celebration of Uttarakhand’s folk heritage, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami participated in the Kumaon Dwar Mahotsav 2025 held in Haldwani on Monday. The Chief Minister encouraged local artists and performers, expressing admiration for the rich cultural traditions of the state while addressing a large gathering of citizens.
Our correspondent reports that the Chief Minister was greeted with immense warmth and affection by youth groups, women, and senior citizens during the event. He said he was deeply moved by the overwhelming response of the people and their continued commitment to preserving Uttarakhand’s traditional arts and values.
Speaking on the occasion, CM Dhami described local fairs and traditional festivals as symbols of the state’s “samriddh sanskritik virasat” (rich cultural heritage) and instruments of social unity. He added that such events not only celebrate culture but also strengthen the spirit of collective consciousness among the people.
“The fairs and traditional gatherings held across the state are not just reflections of our cultural prosperity but also embody our social unity and shared identity,” the Chief Minister said, addressing the gathering amid enthusiastic applause.
Our correspondent adds that CM Dhami reaffirmed his government’s commitment to promoting folk culture, indigenous art forms, and regional dialects. He said sustained efforts are being made to preserve traditional music, dance, and craftsmanship through various cultural initiatives and government-supported platforms.
Highlighting the importance of cultural identity among the youth, the Chief Minister said that the government’s objective is to reconnect the younger generation with their roots, their land, and their heritage. “Our aim is to ensure that the youth of Uttarakhand remain aware of their traditions and continue to carry forward the legacy of their forefathers with pride,” he said.
During the event, folk artists from different parts of Kumaon showcased traditional dances and songs, while artisans displayed local handicrafts that reflected the region’s creative diversity. The festival drew participation from cultural organisations, self-help groups, and local entrepreneurs working to promote indigenous products and art forms.
Our correspondent reports that the Kumaon Dwar Mahotsav is emerging as one of the region’s most popular cultural platforms, offering artists opportunities to showcase their work and engage directly with audiences. The government’s growing focus on such festivals is seen as part of a broader strategy to strengthen tourism, rural livelihoods, and the preservation of cultural identity.
In his concluding remarks, CM Dhami extended heartfelt gratitude to the people of Haldwani for their affection and assured continued government support for initiatives that celebrate and protect Uttarakhand’s living traditions.
