Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced the establishment of a new agriculture university in Champawat, modelled on the Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, during a programme held at Sharda Ghat, Tanakpur, on Friday. The Chief Minister also inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for 10 development projects worth ₹20.50 crore, marking another step towards the district’s transformation into a model region.

Our correspondent reports that the new agriculture university will promote scientific farming practices and strengthen the mountain-based agricultural economy of the state. It will provide higher education and research opportunities in agriculture and allied sciences for the youth of the region. The Chief Minister said that this initiative will help local farmers adopt modern agricultural techniques, increase productivity, and improve their livelihoods.

Alongside this, Chief Minister Dhami announced that flood relief and protection works would be undertaken in the Chinighot area and its surrounding regions. He said that these projects will ensure safety for local residents, protect agricultural land, and prevent damage to public property during the monsoon season.

Our correspondent adds that the Chief Minister described both announcements as historic steps toward empowering Champawat in education, agriculture, and disaster management. He said the initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to making Champawat a centre of academic excellence and sustainable development.

Dhami said that the state government is working in a mission mode to bring Uttarakhand to the forefront of development in every sector, including education, healthcare, horticulture, and employment generation. He added that the government has made consistent progress in promoting self-employment and entrepreneurship among the youth, especially in rural and semi-urban areas.

The Chief Minister reiterated that Champawat is being developed as a model district, with a focus on improving connectivity, infrastructure, and education. He said that these efforts will create new opportunities for youth and farmers alike, contributing to the state’s goal of self-reliance and prosperity.

Dhami also highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts in disaster management, stating that robust flood protection and early-warning systems are being developed in vulnerable regions. He said the administration is committed to ensuring that no citizen faces hardship due to seasonal natural calamities.

The Chief Minister concluded by urging citizens to actively participate in the state’s developmental initiatives and to contribute to building a stronger and more resilient Uttarakhand.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Shyam Narayan Pandey, Shankar Koranga, District Panchayat Chairman Anand Singh Adhikari, Block Pramukh Anchala Bohra, BJP District President Govind Samant, District Magistrate Manish Kumar, and Superintendent of Police Ajay Ganpati.
