Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today held a high-level meeting with state and district officials after the Meteorological Department issued red and orange alerts for most districts of Uttarakhand for the next three days. According to our correspondent, he directed all departments to remain on 24×7 alert mode, exercise additional caution, and prioritize the safety of citizens.

The Chief Minister noted that excessive rainfall continues to pose challenges for the state and the coming days may be particularly difficult. He emphasized the need for effective preventive measures, especially against landslides in hilly areas and waterlogging in the plains.

Rehabilitation and Relief Efforts

Our correspondent adds that the Chief Minister assured disaster-affected families that the government stands firmly with them. He instructed both Garhwal and Kumaon divisional commissioners to expedite rehabilitation work, including exploring resettlement options in the plains where feasible. Dhami said that support to victims would not be limited to financial aid but would also extend to emotional solidarity and efforts to restore normalcy in their lives.

He asked officers to remain present in the field and ensure that relief and rescue operations are carried out on a war footing.

Key Directives on Roads and Infrastructure

  • Tamakh Bailey Bridge: Dhami reviewed the situation at the Tamakh stream on the Jyotirmath–Malari National Highway where a bridge was washed away. He directed the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to construct a Bailey bridge at the earliest, stressing the route’s strategic importance for both the state and the country.

  • Gangotri Highway: He ordered officials to ensure that the highway is made fully safe and operational before the resumption of pilgrim travel. He reiterated that road repair and fresh construction works must begin immediately after the monsoon, with all tenders and formalities completed in advance.

  • River Channelization in Uttarkashi: The Chief Minister reviewed the situation in Harshil and Syanachatti, where lakes and debris accumulation are raising risks. He instructed constant 24×7 monitoring of water levels, safe disposal of silt and debris at designated sites, and deployment of relief teams at all times.

Monitoring Rivers at Night

Dhami directed officials to keep round-the-clock vigil on river levels, including during night hours, and to alert local communities immediately if any danger is detected. Preventive steps must be taken without delay to safeguard lives and property.

Presence of Senior Officials

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary R.K. Sudhanshu, Principal Secretary Shailesh Bagoli, Disaster Management Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman, senior police officials, divisional commissioners Vinay Shankar Pandey and Deepak Rawat, and other key officers.
