Cabinet Approves Key Decisions on Poultry Subsidy, Transport, Housing and Justice

The state Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, on Wednesday cleared several important proposals spanning animal husbandry, transport, housing, judicial reforms, and governance. These decisions, aimed at improving rural livelihoods, streamlining urban services, and strengthening institutional capacity, reflect the government’s commitment to balanced development across sectors.

Our Correspondent reports that the Cabinet’s focus this time was both on rural welfare—particularly in the hill districts—and on enhancing urban mobility in the state capital. The meeting also approved critical proposals in the housing sector and judicial administration.

Poultry Feed Subsidy for Hill Farmers

In a major step for rural livelihoods, the Cabinet approved the introduction of a poultry feed subsidy scheme for poultry farmers in nine hill districts: Almora, Chamoli, Uttarkashi, Pithoragarh, Champawat, Pauri, Bageshwar, Tehri, and Rudraprayag.

Under this scheme, during the initial year 2025–26, 816 beneficiaries under the Broiler Farm Scheme and 781 beneficiaries under the Poultry Valley Establishment Scheme will receive direct benefits. The government has sanctioned ₹2.83 crore towards feed subsidies.

Officials noted that the scheme will boost poultry farming in hill areas, improve farmer incomes, and enhance the availability of protein-rich food locally.

Our Correspondent adds that the move comes in line with the government’s broader efforts to strengthen animal husbandry as an alternative source of livelihood in regions where traditional farming has become less sustainable.

Special Purpose Vehicle for Dehradun Transport

To address worsening traffic congestion in the capital, the Cabinet approved the formation of a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) named Dehradun City Transport Limited.

The new entity will be responsible for:

  • Operating e-buses run by Dehradun Smart City Limited.

  • Managing e-bus services under the Prime Minister’s e-bus scheme.

  • Organising and streamlining the current urban bus service.

The SPV will serve as a unified agency to coordinate public transport in the city, ensure efficiency, and promote environmentally sustainable mobility.

Housing Department Land Allocation

In a significant decision, the Cabinet approved the allocation of 9.918 hectares of land in Fazalpur Mahraula, Rudrapur (Udham Singh Nagar district) to the District Development Authority.

This land will be utilised for the development of planned colonies and commercial constructions, aimed at addressing the growing demand for regulated urban expansion in one of the state’s most industrialised districts.

Judicial Administration Strengthened

The Cabinet sanctioned the creation of one post of Senior Principal Private Secretary (Level-13, Grade Pay ₹8,700) at the Advocate General’s office in Nainital High Court, while simultaneously surrendering one post of Stenographer.

Officials said this decision will enhance administrative efficiency at the office of the Advocate General, ensuring better legal support in important cases before the High Court.

Right to Service Report to be Tabled

The Cabinet also approved placing the ninth annual report (2023–24) of the Uttarakhand Right to Service Act before the Assembly. This move reinforces the government’s emphasis on accountability and the timely delivery of public services to citizens.

Our Correspondent adds that the presentation of the Right to Service report in the Assembly will allow legislators to review performance and direct improvements in ensuring citizen-centric governance.

A Mix of Rural and Urban Priorities

The Cabinet’s decisions reflect a deliberate balance between strengthening rural economies and addressing the demands of rapidly growing urban centres. While the poultry feed subsidy targets the economic needs of farmers in remote districts, the SPV in Dehradun is designed to ease daily commutes and improve air quality. Land allocation for housing, meanwhile, responds to the rising demand for planned urban growth, while judicial reforms and governance steps underline the state’s institutional focus.
