DEHRADUN: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Sunday participated in the unveiling of the statue of Bharat Ratna and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Madanapalle, located in Annamayya district of Andhra Pradesh. The event was organised as part of the Atal–Modi Good Governance Yatra, during which the Chief Minister also addressed a large public gathering.
In his address, Chief Minister Dhami said he felt honoured to participate in the programme organised by the Andhra Pradesh unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party during the birth centenary year of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He described Vajpayee as a statesman whose life reflected unwavering patriotism, democratic values and deep human sensitivity. He said Vajpayee’s conduct in public life set enduring standards of political ethics and governance.
Referring to Vajpayee’s tenure as Prime Minister, the Chief Minister said that India achieved several historic milestones under his leadership. He said the Pokhran nuclear tests strengthened national security and established India as a confident global power. He also recalled initiatives such as the Golden Quadrilateral highway project, the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana and the expansion of telecommunications, which transformed connectivity and infrastructure across the country.
Chief Minister Dhami said Vajpayee proved that coalition governments could deliver stability and progress when national interest remained the guiding principle. He said Vajpayee demonstrated that consensus politics and firm decision making could coexist. He added that Vajpayee’s leadership strengthened democratic institutions while keeping development at the centre of governance.
“Our revered Atal ji showed that when the goal is national progress, political differences can be set aside,” the Chief Minister said while addressing the gathering. He added that Vajpayee’s inclusive approach continues to inspire public servants and political leaders across generations.
Drawing a connection between past and present leadership, Chief Minister Dhami said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is carrying forward Vajpayee’s vision of service, good governance and welfare of the poor. He said programmes such as Startup India, Make in India, Digital India and Vocal for Local have strengthened India’s journey towards self reliance. He said these initiatives have created new employment opportunities while encouraging innovation and indigenous production.
The Chief Minister said India today is emerging as a leading economic power while also making significant advances in defence, space and infrastructure. He said that during the present government’s tenure, about 99 percent of villages have been connected by roads, bringing transformative change to rural life. He added that the health, education and transport sectors have also witnessed major reforms and expansion.
Our correspondent reports that Chief Minister Dhami highlighted the government’s efforts to preserve and revive India’s spiritual and cultural heritage. He referred to major projects such as the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor, the Mahakal Lok in Ujjain, and the redevelopment of the Badrinath and Kedarnath shrines. He said these initiatives have restored the cultural pride of the nation while also boosting religious tourism.
Our correspondent adds that the Chief Minister spoke about several landmark policy decisions taken in recent years. He said the abrogation of Article 370, the abolition of triple talaq, the enactment of the Citizenship Amendment Act and reforms related to the Waqf framework have strengthened the vision of One Nation One Identity. He said these decisions were taken in the interest of national unity and social justice.
Chief Minister Dhami also praised the development initiatives underway in Andhra Pradesh under the leadership of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. He said projects such as the Polavaram irrigation project, development of industrial cities, establishment of advanced manufacturing units including semiconductor facilities, and new technology driven industries are setting new benchmarks for growth. He said Andhra Pradesh is progressing rapidly on the path of modern infrastructure and industrial development.
Referring to Uttarakhand, the Chief Minister said that the creation of the state itself was inspired by the vision of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He said that today, under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttarakhand is emerging as a leading state in education, healthcare, startups, employment generation and transparent governance. He said that several bold policy decisions have been taken to strengthen law and order and social harmony.
“Our state has implemented the Uniform Civil Code and taken firm steps against unlawful religious conversions and land misuse,” the Chief Minister said. He added that these measures reflect the government’s commitment to good governance and equal justice.
The programme concluded with the unveiling of the statue and expressions of tribute to Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Party leaders, public representatives and citizens present at the event described Vajpayee as a guiding force whose ideals continue to shape India’s democratic and developmental journey.
