DEHRADUN: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami paid floral tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his death anniversary on Monday at the Chief Minister’s residence, calling the Iron Man of India a timeless architect of national unity and an enduring inspiration for the country. Our correspondent reports that the ceremony was held in a solemn atmosphere, attended by senior officials and members of the state administration, who gathered to honour Patel’s unmatched contribution to nation-building.

The Chief Minister said Sardar Patel’s statesmanship and commitment to national integration continue to guide India’s democratic and administrative ethos. Describing Patel as a figure whose courage shaped the idea of a strong and united India, Dhami said his legacy remains foundational to the country’s collective identity.

“Sardar Patel was not only a freedom fighter but the architect of modern India,” CM Dhami said. “His far-sighted leadership, unwavering dedication and administrative brilliance ensured the integration of more than five hundred princely states into one nation. The unity and stability we see in India today stand on the firm foundation he laid.”

Our correspondent adds that in his address, the Chief Minister emphasised Patel’s exceptional ability to balance firmness with compassion, a quality that made him both a visionary leader and a man of the people. Dhami highlighted that Patel’s emphasis on discipline, duty and national solidarity remains relevant for citizens and governments alike.

“His commitment to national interest was absolute,” Dhami said. “Sardar Patel’s life teaches us that unity is not merely an idea but a continuous responsibility. His determination to keep India strong and indivisible will always inspire future generations.”

The Chief Minister also recalled Patel’s role in the Indian freedom movement, noting that his leadership during the Bardoli Satyagraha and his close association with Mahatma Gandhi cemented his place among the tallest leaders of the independence struggle. According to Dhami, Patel’s administrative acumen and capacity to resolve complex disputes made him one of the most respected figures of his time.

“Whether it was reorganising the civil services, strengthening internal security or handling intricate political negotiations, Sardar Patel always placed the nation first,” Dhami remarked. “His humility, decisiveness and patriotism shaped India’s trajectory in its most critical years.”

Our correspondent reports that Dhami urged citizens to take inspiration from Patel’s values at a time when social harmony and national cohesion hold immense importance. The Chief Minister said that India’s cultural and social unity remains its greatest strength, and preserving this unity requires collective effort, vigilance and commitment.

“We must strive to uphold the ideals for which Sardar Patel lived,” Dhami said. “Unity, discipline and integrity are essential for the dream of a strong India. His message continues to illuminate our path as we work towards a developed and self-reliant nation.”

The Chief Minister also highlighted ongoing national efforts aimed at strengthening governance, enhancing internal security and promoting cooperative federalism, noting that these initiatives reflect Patel’s vision of a well-administered nation anchored in constitutional values.

Officials present at the event echoed similar sentiments, stating that Patel’s contributions must be communicated to young generations so they understand the sacrifices and leadership that shaped independent India. Educational institutions across Uttarakhand are expected to observe discussions and special programmes dedicated to Patel’s life and achievements throughout the week.

The Chief Minister concluded by stating that paying homage to Sardar Patel is not merely a ceremonial gesture but a reaffirmation of India’s commitment to unity and nation-building. He said the state government would continue to encourage activities that promote awareness about the country’s founding leaders and their enduring legacy.

“Sardar Patel’s resolve, courage and devotion to the motherland will always be remembered with deep respect,” Dhami said. “His ideals must guide us as we move forward with conviction to build an India that is prosperous, harmonious and united.”
