HARIDWAR: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited Haridwar on Monday, offering prayers at the historic Daksheshwar Mahadev Temple in Kankhal before proceeding to the Siddhapeeth Hanumangarhi Temple, where he sought blessings for the state’s progress and the successful organisation of the upcoming 2027 Kumbh Mela.

During his early-morning visit, the Chief Minister performed a special milk offering and traditional rituals at the Daksheshwar Mahadev Temple, one of Haridwar’s most revered Shiva shrines. Our correspondent reports that the Chief Minister interacted with temple priests, members of various akharas, and groups of saints, who blessed him and expressed confidence in the state government’s preparations for the mega event.

Speaking to reporters after the prayer ceremony, Chief Minister Dhami said the 2027 Kumbh Mela would be one of the most significant moments for Uttarakhand in the coming years. “The Kumbh in Haridwar is not just an event; it is a spiritual milestone for the entire world,” he said. “The state government is working with full dedication to ensure that the 2027 Kumbh is truly grand, divine and memorable. We want every pilgrim to have a safe, smooth and enriching experience.”

He said the government was strengthening infrastructure, improving connectivity and expanding the Mela area to accommodate the expected surge of devotees. “Our aim is that every visitor returns with a sense of spiritual fulfilment and satisfaction. For this, we are upgrading facilities, expanding ghats and ensuring robust security arrangements,” the Chief Minister added.

Dhami also expressed gratitude for the continuous support extended by the akharas and the saint community. “The blessings of revered saints are our strength. Uttarakhand is the land of faith, and the cooperation of the spiritual fraternity is invaluable,” he said. The Chief Minister appealed for continued guidance and support as preparations accelerate.

Leaders from major akharas welcomed the Chief Minister’s visit and praised the government’s commitment to cultural preservation. Mahant Ravindra Puri, Secretary of Shri Panchayati Mahanirvani Akhara, said: “Chief Minister Dhami has taken commendable steps to preserve and promote our cultural heritage. The saint community extends full support for the divya and bhavya Kumbh preparations.”

Other akhara representatives, including Mahant Rajendra Das of the Akhara Parishad, Vaishno Das of Digambar Akhara, Mahant Murlidas of Nirvani Akhara, and Jasvinder Singh of Nirmal Akhara, were also present. They raised issues related to facilities, crowd management and support for sadhu-saints during the Kumbh. Officials accompanying the Chief Minister assured that feedback from saints was being incorporated into ongoing planning.

After completing the rituals at Daksheshwar Mahadev, the Chief Minister visited the Siddhapeeth Hanumangarhi Temple, where he offered special prayers. Temple authorities briefed him on the ongoing preparations for increased footfall ahead of the Kumbh season.

Senior administrative officials, including Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey, Haridwar District Magistrate Mayur Dikshit and Senior Superintendent of Police Premendra Singh Dobal, accompanied the Chief Minister during his temple visits.

Local MLAs Madan Kaushik (Haridwar), Adesh Chauhan (Ranipur) and Pradeep Batra (Roorkee), along with several BJP leaders and district representatives, were also present. They informed the Chief Minister about local requirements related to road development, sanitation, transport management and essential services for pilgrims.

Officials said the 2027 Kumbh is expected to witness one of the highest turnouts ever recorded in Haridwar. To manage the massive scale, the state government has finalised detailed plans involving expanded transit corridors, dedicated emergency-response systems, upgraded parking spaces, and advance crowd-flow management.

A senior official accompanying the Chief Minister said: “This Kumbh will be the biggest logistical exercise undertaken in Uttarakhand. Multiple agencies are already working collaboratively to ensure timely execution of every component.”

The Chief Minister emphasised that the government’s goal was not only to improve physical infrastructure but also to uphold Haridwar’s spiritual heritage. “Kumbh is a sacred tradition that reflects India’s civilisational strength. Our effort is to protect that sanctity while ensuring world-class facilities for devotees,” he said.

As preparations move into an advanced stage, teams from various departments, including irrigation, power, health, police, tourism and urban development, have been instructed to coordinate closely under a unified command structure.

Locals and pilgrims present at the temples expressed appreciation for the Chief Minister’s visit, saying it boosted confidence that the upcoming Kumbh Mela would be organised smoothly.

With less than two years remaining, the 2027 Kumbh has already entered the state’s highest-priority planning zone, with Chief Minister Dhami personally overseeing major milestones.
