DEHRADUN: In the interest of urban progress, Dehradun Municipal Corporation marked a significant milestone as Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated and laid foundation stones for development projects worth more than ₹46 crore during the corporation 27th Foundation Day celebration in the city today. The ceremony took place at the Mukhya Sevak Sadan in the Chief Minister residence and brought together senior officials, public representatives and civic workers.
The Chief Minister congratulated the Municipal Corporation for its achievements over the past 27 years. He said that the institution strengthened civic services, modernised urban planning and played a vital role in developing Dehradun as a clean and organised city. He noted that the Foundation Day served both as a celebration of past progress and a reminder of the responsibilities that lay ahead. He said that Dehradun continued to grow as a major urban centre with increasing expectations from citizens.
Our correspondent reports that the Chief Minister spoke about national initiatives that guided urban transformation across India. He said that the leadership of the Prime Minister created new benchmarks for development and inspired rapid improvements in cities. He added that programmes such as the Swachh Bharat Mission introduced a new culture of cleanliness in towns and cities across the country. He said that the AMRUT scheme strengthened water supply and sewerage networks while promoting green spaces. He also highlighted the Smart City Mission which encouraged innovative approaches to urban planning.
Our correspondent adds that the Chief Minister referred to several ongoing projects in Dehradun. He said that the state government was working with full commitment to shape the city into a modern and well planned urban centre. He noted that major investments were being made in sanitation, solid waste management and public infrastructure. He said that the city waste management system improved after the establishment of a mechanised transfer station. He added that real time monitoring of waste vehicles was now possible through the Integrated Command and Control Centre.
Our correspondent reports that the Chief Minister spoke about green initiatives taken in the city. He said that the government had developed 35 parks across various locations in Dehradun. He added that a yoga themed park was being constructed in Kedarpuram and that memorial parks were being developed to honour the spirit of sacrifice shown by brave individuals. He said that more than 50000 square metres of new green area would be available to the public after completion of these projects. He also pointed to the Renew Rispna campaign which aimed to revive local rivers.
Our correspondent adds that the Chief Minister highlighted initiatives promoting clean mobility and environmental protection. He said that the government operated 30 electric buses in Dehradun to reduce pollution and improve public transport. He added that 11 charging stations were built for private electric vehicles. He said that these efforts contributed to improved scores for the city in national surveys. He said that Dehradun gained nineteenth position in the National Clean Air Programme survey and secured sixty second rank in the national cleanliness rating with improved performance.
The Chief Minister said that long standing problems related to traffic and parking were being addressed. He said that underground parking was being constructed in several parts of the city. He added that plans were being prepared for elevated roads over the Rispana and Bindal rivers to reduce congestion. He congratulated the Municipal Corporation employees who performed outstanding work and said that civic staff remained central to the functioning of the city.
The Mayor of Dehradun addressed the event and said that the city was progressing towards a modern and environmentally friendly future. He presented details of ongoing and completed projects undertaken by the Municipal Corporation. He said that public cooperation remained essential for maintaining cleanliness and improving civic standards.
The programme was attended by Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal, MLAs Khajan Das, Vinod Chamoli and Umesh Sharma Kau along with the Municipal Commissioner Namami Bansal and several councillors. They praised the development projects and appreciated the efforts of civic officials working to improve conditions in the capital.
