DEHRADUN: In a historic move, CM Dhami distributed appointment letters to 142 newly selected Assistant Professors for various government medical colleges during an event in the city on Tuesday. The programme took place at the Mukhya Sevak Sadan in the Chief Minister residence and included senior officials and public representatives.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami congratulated the new Assistant Professors and said that the appointments strengthened medical education and improved the quality of health services in Uttarakhand. He encouraged the recruits to focus on academic excellence and guide their students with discipline, compassion and public responsibility. He said that committed faculty members shaped capable medical professionals who served society with sincerity.
Our correspondent reports that the Chief Minister described the appointments as an important step towards strengthening the medical system. He said that every faculty member played a vital role in shaping the future of healthcare. He added that the government expected the new educators to uphold high standards of training and professional conduct.
Our correspondent adds that the Chief Minister highlighted the expansion of health services under the leadership of the Prime Minister. He said that the state strengthened hospitals and improved treatment facilities to make healthcare accessible and affordable. He noted that about 61 lakh Ayushman cards had been distributed and nearly 17 lakh patients received cashless treatment worth more than 3300 crore rupees.
Our correspondent reports that the Chief Minister said that the government worked to establish one medical college in every district to ensure advanced facilities in remote areas. He informed the gathering that five government medical colleges were already functional while construction of two additional colleges progressed steadily. He added that super speciality departments operated in the colleges in Dehradun, Haldwani and Srinagar.
Our correspondent adds that the Chief Minister provided updates on new health projects. He said that the construction of the state first modern cancer institute in Haldwani progressed well. He noted that helicopter ambulance services proved helpful for patients in remote regions. He added that free diagnostic tests and telemedicine services supported villagers who required timely medical advice.
The Chief Minister said that staff shortages in hospitals and medical colleges were addressed through ongoing recruitment. He said that the selection of another 356 Assistant Professors was under way. He added that 1248 nursing officers and 170 technicians had already been appointed. He said that the recruitment of nearly 600 additional nursing officers progressed as well.
He said that earlier recruitment processes in the state faced corruption and malpractice. He stated that the government enforced the strictest anti cheating law in the country to protect the merit system. He added that transparent and merit based examinations helped nearly 27000 youth secure government employment. He assured that all vacant posts would be filled soon through proper procedures.
Cabinet Minister Dr Dhan Singh Rawat addressed the gathering and said that 62 percent of faculty positions in government medical colleges were permanent. He added that the construction of the Pithoragarh and Rudrapur medical colleges was 70 percent complete and both institutions would begin operating in the next academic session. He said that 625 students pursued MBBS studies and 256 students pursued postgraduate medical education in government institutions.
He said that nearly 14000 students studied nursing each year in about 100 colleges across Uttarakhand. He added that the recently recruited 3000 nursing staff came entirely from the state. He noted that 32 lakh people received free diagnostic tests and that helicopter ambulance services helped 350 critical patients reach higher centres.
Several MLAs, senior officials and principals of government medical colleges attended the programme. They praised the appointments and said that the decision strengthened the academic and healthcare systems in Uttarakhand. The event concluded with a collective commitment to continue expanding public health services across the state.
