DEHRADUN: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has approved financial sanctions totaling ₹170.13 crore for major development projects across Uttarakhand, including preparations for Kumbh Mela 2027, modernization of fire services, important road works, and community infrastructure in several districts.

The approvals follow departmental reviews and recommendations of empowered committees overseeing strategic development efforts.

A major component of the sanctioned amount includes ₹37.34 crore for 11 new construction works related to Kumbh Mela 2027, marking an important step toward the large-scale logistical preparations required for the global religious event.

A senior official associated with Kumbh planning said, “This approval strengthens the foundation for timely execution. Kumbh Mela demands significant infrastructure, and this funding ensures the first phase can move ahead effectively.”

Focus on Fire Services Strengthening

Among the significant approvals is ₹79 crore under the 15th Finance Commission for modernizing fire services across the state. The amount will be used to improve fire stations, upgrade equipment, and enhance emergency response capabilities, especially in disaster-prone regions.

A fire department official stated, “With new vehicles, equipment, and communication upgrades, fire response across hill districts will become faster and more reliable.”

Road Connectivity Gets a Boost

Two key road projects have received green signals:

  • ₹3.26 crore for reconstruction and improvement of the Siku–Timli motor road in Pabo block, Pauri Garhwal
  • ₹1.78 crore for new road construction from Pipaldali to Myunda Lalwali in Pratapnagar Assembly constituency

Public Works Department officials said these roadworks will ease daily travel and support the movement of local agricultural produce. One engineer commented, “Better roads directly support livelihoods in remote regions. These projects will fill long-standing connectivity gaps.”

Major Bridge Project in Champawat

A significant allocation of ₹48.38 crore has been approved for constructing 480-metre and 120-metre span bridges over Kiroda Nala in Nayakgoth Gram Panchayat, Tanakpur.
Local officials observed that monsoon disruptions frequently isolate villages. A community representative remarked, “This bridge will finally give people safe, year-round access. It is a long-awaited project.”

Community Building in New Tehri Receives Funds

The Chief Minister also approved ₹36.74 lakh as the remaining amount required to complete the community building at Vidya Mandir Inter College, New Tehri. The project had already received ₹55.10 lakh. With the new approval, the full cost is now sanctioned.

Education officials highlighted the importance of the facility, noting that “community infrastructure enhances opportunities for students and local residents alike.”

Push for Balanced Regional Development

Officials said the latest approvals reflect the government’s emphasis on inclusive and region-wide development, covering cultural, civic, emergency, educational, and transport needs.

A senior government functionary noted, “The Chief Minister’s decisions underline a clear approach: projects must deliver real benefits at the ground level. These sanctions support both long-term goals and immediate local requirements.”

Most of the approved projects are expected to enter active implementation within this financial year.
