Nursing officer recruitment Uttarakhand
The Uttarakhand Medical Services Selection Board (UKMSSB) will begin accepting online applications on November 27 for 587 newly advertised nursing officer posts across government medical colleges in the state. The vacancies were announced earlier this week.
Our correspondent reports that the recruitment drive covers posts at government medical colleges in Haridwar and Pithoragarh, including 480 regular positions and 107 backlog posts for nursing officers. The board has invited applications for the following categories: 336 posts for female nursing officers (diploma holders), 144 posts for female nursing officers (degree holders), 75 posts for male nursing officers (diploma holders) and 32 posts for male nursing officers (degree holders).
Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Dhan Singh Rawat said the initiative is part of the government’s strategy to equip the health sector with high-quality human resources and reduce staff shortfalls. He noted the recruitment drive follows direct-recruitment notifications for 287 doctors and 180 ANMs in the past week. “Ensuring quality healthcare means filling vacant posts swiftly. Through this recruitment, we aim to strengthen our medical colleges and provide better services to the public,” the minister stated.
Candidates will be able to register online between November 27 and December 17. Eligibility criteria, exam pattern, and fees are outlined in the official notification. The board has mandated that candidates must meet age and educational requirements and submit scanned documents during application. The final selection will follow a written test, document verification and medical examination.
The board emphasised that applicants must use the official recruitment website and caution against third-party services. They also announced that help desks at district hospitals will assist applicants with online registration where required. “We are committed to a transparent process and urge candidates to keep their registration details secure,” said a UKMSSB official.
District hospital administrators welcomed the announcement, noting that the recruitment will relieve pressure on understaffed departments. Dr Rajeev Sharma, Principal of the Government Medical College in Haridwar, said: “The addition of nursing officers will directly benefit patient care and enable smoother functioning of wards and emergency services.”
Analysts observe that the drive comes at a time when Uttarakhand’s healthcare infrastructure is undergoing expansion. The state has been preparing for increased patient inflow during peak seasons and improving rural health access. Filling these posts is expected to reduce dependence on outsourcing, overtime and temporary contract staff, thereby improving service continuity.
The board has introduced several safeguards: applications will be tracked through unique login IDs, SMS alerts will be sent for each stage, and a grievance portal will be activated for applicant queries. Late applications, incomplete documents or non-payment of fees will be rejected. The board has also clarified that any attempt at collusion or unfair assistance will lead to cancellation of candidature and blacklisting of involved parties.
Candidates are required to carefully read the “detailed notification” available on the board’s website before applying. They should also ensure they print their application acknowledgment and preserve it for further selection phases. Payment of the application fee must be completed by December 20, after which no changes to the submission will be allowed.
With these positions, the state government aims to enhance its health workforce strength and better serve communities across plain and hilly regions. The board said it will publish the admit-card schedule shortly and urged candidates to regularly check updates.
