Kichha Road Accident
In a tragic road accident in Kichha in Udhamsingh Nagar district, a woman lost her life and three others were injured when the car they were travelling collided head-on with a tractor trolley in the wee hours of Saturday. The collision took place on the Sitarganj Road, where both vehicles suffered significant impact damage.
Our correspondent reports that the deceased has been identified as Jayanti Devi, a resident of Nepal. She was travelling in the car along with three others when the tractor trolley coming in the wrong direction, struck the vehicle. The injured were taken to the district hospital, where they remain under medical supervision.
Police officials said the crash occurred at around 4.30am. Our correspondent adds that preliminary investigation suggests the tractor trolley may have been speeding and visibility was limited due to low light conditions. The police have taken the tractor trolley driver into custody for questioning and further verification.
Emergency teams and local residents reached the spot soon after the accident. The victim was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital due to severe injuries. The condition of the three injured passengers is being monitored by the medical staff, who have confirmed that each sustained multiple injuries during the collision.
Officials from the traffic enforcement unit said the area has seen repeated incidents of this nature in recent months. They stated that poor lane discipline, inadequate lighting and frequent movement of heavy vehicles contribute to the risk of accidents on this stretch of road.
The district administration has instructed the local authorities to conduct a safety review of the Sitarganj Road. The review will include checks on signage, lighting and traffic regulation measures. Officials said that steps would be taken to reduce the accident rate and address public safety concerns.
Residents of the area welcomed the move and said that several recent accidents have increased anxiety among daily commuters. They urged authorities to ensure stricter enforcement of speed limits and improved monitoring during night and early morning hours.
Police said that a detailed report would be prepared once the forensic examination of both vehicles is complete. The investigation remains ongoing, and officials stated that further action will be taken based on the findings.
