Maharashtra’s Cultural Affairs Minister Adv. Ashish Shelar announced on Saturday that a district-wise survey of historically significant wells across Maharashtra will soon be conducted.

Speaking after a review meeting with experts from the Cultural Affairs Department, Minister Shelar said that preliminary findings indicate there are over 3,000 wells in the state with verifiable historical records dating back to ancient times.

He said that these wells are not just sources of water but are also rare examples of unique architectural techniques, holding immense heritage value.

He emphasized that ongoing water conservation efforts must include these structures, ensuring that the water they hold is properly utilized.
