Asia Cup 2025: India Registers Dominant Victory Over Pakistan

India asserted its cricketing dominance with a resounding seven-wicket victory over arch-rivals Pakistan in a one-sided Asia Cup Group A league match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday. The victory was a comprehensive display of skill, with India’s bowlers laying the foundation for a clinical chase led by skipper Suryakumar Yadav.

Pakistan, having won the toss, opted to bat first on what was expected to be a slow pitch that would favour the spinners later in the game. However, their strategy backfired almost immediately. India’s fast bowler, Hardik Pandya, drew first blood, dismissing Saim Ayub for a golden duck on the very first legitimate delivery of the match. This was followed by another early breakthrough from Jasprit Bumrah, who removed Mohammad Haris for just three runs, leaving Pakistan reeling at 6 for 2 in the second over.

Our sports correspondent reports that while Sahibzada Farhan and Fakhar Zaman attempted to stabilise the innings, it was India’s spin trio that truly dismantled the Pakistani batting lineup. The wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav was in exceptional form, claiming three crucial wickets for a mere 18 runs. He was expertly supported by the disciplined bowling of Axar Patel, who took two wickets for 18 runs, and Varun Chakaravarthy, who took a wicket. This relentless pressure from the spinners saw Pakistan’s middle order collapse, and they were left struggling at 97 for 8 in the 18th over.

A late counter-attack from Shaheen Afridi, who scored a quick-fire 33 not out from just 16 balls, provided a semblance of respectability to the total. This late flourish helped Pakistan post a score of 127 for 9 in their allotted 20 overs. However, against a powerful Indian batting order, the total was always going to be challenging to defend.

In the chase, India got off to a blistering start. Opening batsman Abhishek Sharma took the attack to Pakistan’s star pacer Shaheen Afridi from the very first over, hitting a four and a towering six. Sharma’s explosive knock of 31 from just 13 balls set the tone for the chase. After his departure, a steady partnership between Tilak Varma and captain Suryakumar Yadav guided India towards the target with ease. Varma scored a composed 31, while Yadav anchored the innings with an unbeaten 47 from 37 balls, including a six that sealed the victory. India completed the chase with 25 deliveries to spare, finishing on 131 for 3 in just 15.5 overs.

The convincing seven-wicket win not only gave India a dominant position in Group A but also marked a crucial victory in the politically charged atmosphere surrounding the match. The post-match handshakes were notably absent between the two teams, adding a layer of tension to the rivalry. Captain Suryakumar Yadav later dedicated the victory to the country’s armed forces, a gesture that was widely praised by fans.
