Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will launch 1,300 urban development projects across the state today, marking one of the largest infrastructure initiatives undertaken in recent years. The projects, spread across multiple cities and towns, are aimed at improving civic amenities, modernising infrastructure, and supporting sustainable urban growth.
State officials said the projects cover a wide range of sectors, including road construction, water supply, sewage treatment, street lighting, and housing. The focus will be on enhancing liveability in small and medium-sized towns that have seen rapid growth but lag in basic facilities.
The government has highlighted the initiative as a step toward building resilient and future-ready cities. Priority has been given to projects that can generate employment opportunities and support local economies while also addressing long-standing gaps in public services.
Urban development experts said the scale of the launch reflects the urgency of addressing Bihar’s urbanisation challenges. With migration to towns increasing, better infrastructure is considered essential for reducing congestion, ensuring clean water and sanitation, and improving mobility.
The projects will be monitored by a centralised system to ensure timely implementation. Officials also confirmed that funding has been secured through a mix of state resources and central government assistance.
