IMD forecasts rain, snowfall over Western Himalayan Region

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast scattered to fairly widespread rainfall and snowfall over the Western Himalayan Region and isolated to scattered rainfall over plain areas of Northwest India during the next 48 hours.

IMD said that light to moderate rainfall and snowfall with lightning are likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh today and light rainfall and snowfall from 21st to 23rd February. It added that thunderstorms and lightning with isolated hailstorm activity are also likely in Uttarakhand today.

The weather agency predicted light to moderate rainfall with gusty winds over Punjab, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh and Chandigarh today. IMD said that a western disturbance is seen as a cyclonic circulation over Jammu and the neighbourhood in lower tropospheric levels.

Another western disturbance is seen as a trough in a lower tropospheric level that runs roughly along Long. IMD added, that under the influence of cyclonic circulations, several parts of Northwest India may have witnessed rainfall and snowfall.

Meanwhile, the National capital Delhi and its adjoining areas witnessed light rainfall this morning.
