In a major counter-terror breakthrough, security agencies in Haryana recovered 2,563 kilograms of suspected explosives from a residence in Faridabad, just a day after 350 kilograms of explosives and several weapons were seized from another rented accommodation in the same district.

The second recovery was made during an extended search operation following the interrogation of two doctors from Jammu and Kashmir, arrested earlier in connection with a suspected terror module. The raids, led by a joint team of Faridabad Police and central intelligence agencies, uncovered the explosive materials stored in multiple containers and bags.

According to senior police officials, the seized cache also included detonators, electronic circuits, and timers. Preliminary analysis suggests the material could be ammonium nitrate — a chemical compound often used in large-scale improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

The police have identified one of the accused as Dr Muzammil Shakeel, a resident of Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir, who was working at a private hospital in Faridabad. He was arrested last week after the first explosives seizure. Investigations revealed that another house connected to the same network had been rented in the city under a different name, where the latest stockpile was found.

This discovery, made within 24 hours of the first recovery, has alarmed security agencies, which now believe the network could be part of a larger terror plot targeting high-profile locations in the Delhi-NCR region.

Police sources confirmed that over 2.5 tonnes of the suspected explosive material were safely transferred to a secure facility for forensic analysis. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has also been briefed about the developments.

Officials say the recovered explosives were stored systematically and accompanied by materials such as fuses, batteries, and wires, indicating preparations for potential assembly.

Senior officers stated that more searches are being conducted across Faridabad, Gurugram, and parts of western Uttar Pradesh to trace the source and movement of the material. Digital evidence, including phones and laptops seized from the suspects, is being analysed to map the full network.

Experts believe this is one of the largest explosives seizures in recent years in northern India. The discovery is being described as a “major success” in preventing possible large-scale terror activities.

Authorities have tightened security in the Delhi-NCR region and increased surveillance around sensitive installations and transport hubs. A formal statement from the Home Ministry is expected later today.
