Social media accounts of Pakistani celebrities banned again in India

Government has again banned social media accounts of several Pakistani actors and cricketers in the country. Sources said the accounts were briefly accessible due to technical reasons.

In May this year, the government had blocked several Pakistani YouTube channels and social media accounts for spreading anti-India propaganda and provocative content.

They include Instagram accounts of actors Saba Qamar, Ahad Raza Mir, Yumna Zaidi, and Danish Taimoor and YouTube channels of cricketers Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Akhtar.

It was also directed to all OTT platforms, media streaming services and digital intermediaries to discontinue web series, films, songs, podcasts and other media content originating from Pakistan.

However, the accounts of other Pakistani actors, such as Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan, and Hania Aamir, remained inaccessible from India even yesterday. Upon searching for their accounts, users get a message: “Account not available in India. This is because we complied with a legal request to restrict this content.”
