PR Should Lead, Not Just Communicate: Governor

DEHRADUN: The PRSI Delegation on Saturday called on Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) at Lok Bhawan and extended an invitation for the 47th All India Public Relations Conference, to be held in the city from December 13 to 15. The meeting served as the central step for preparations related to the forthcoming conference.

The Governor welcomed the team and appreciated their work in strengthening the field of public communication across India. He said that effective communication enriches democratic spaces and builds trust between institutions and the people.

Our correspondent reports that the Governor underlined the cultural depth of India and the responsibility of Public Relations in presenting national values with intelligence and compassion. He said that public communication has the unique ability to express the emotions of citizens and interpret the social fabric of the nation. He added that a thoughtful approach helps people understand shared aspirations and collective progress.

Our correspondent adds that the Governor linked the importance of communication to the vision of Viksit Bharat at 2047. He said that the national vision requires wide public involvement and clear communication. He noted that development cannot progress without full participation from citizens who must receive accurate, meaningful and timely information. He said that communication professionals strengthen national purpose through disciplined and constructive outreach.

Our correspondent reports that the Governor highlighted the growing role of technology in transforming public communication. He spoke about artificial intelligence, quantum technology and advanced digital systems that are reshaping information networks. He said that these tools are powerful but must be applied with sensitivity to India cultural foundation. He added that technology gains purpose when it respects human dignity and community values.

He said that the role of communication is not limited to distributing messages. Instead, it must educate, inspire and build confidence in institutions. He said that effective communication requires integrity, accuracy and respect for public interest. He also encouraged disciplined use of social media to ensure positive and factual engagement.

The delegation briefed the Governor about the theme of the upcoming national conference which focuses on the role of public relations in Viksit Bharat at twenty forty seven. They said that the convention will gather communication professionals, educators and government representatives from across India. Discussions will highlight national progress, emerging trends and future communication strategies.

The delegation said that more than 300 delegates will attend the conference in Dehradun. They explained that the event will feature sessions on crisis communication, digital innovation, media relations, skill development and ethical communication. They also added that the meeting will provide a platform for exchanging ideas that can strengthen communication practices across sectors.

They informed the Governor that Uttarakhand Silver Jubilee year will receive special attention during the conference. Sessions will examine the state development journey, major achievements and future possibilities. They said that public relations can help present Uttarakhand identity to a wider audience and inspire greater participation in the state development goals.

Members present during the meeting included senior information officials and representatives of the PRSI Dehradun Chapter. They shared the organisation long standing commitment to strengthening professional standards in public communication. They expressed gratitude to the Governor for his guidance and encouragement and said that the event will help position Dehradun as an important centre for national level communication discourse.

The Governor appreciated the efforts made by the Public Relations Society of India and conveyed his confidence that the conference will offer valuable insights to professionals from across the country. He encouraged the delegation to continue promoting ethical communication and responsible public engagement. He added that such events contribute meaningfully to the progress of the nation.
