Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Sunday oversaw the online Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) of nearly ₹25 crore under various welfare schemes of the Uttarakhand Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board. The funds were transferred directly into the bank accounts of 8,299 workers and their dependents as part of a special campaign to clear pending applications.
Clearing Pending Applications
Under the drive, applications were settled across multiple schemes, including the daughter’s marriage assistance scheme, death compensation, maternity assistance, and educational aid. According to officials, the total amount disbursed was ₹24,85,19,700, marking the first time such a large-scale clearance was carried out by the board.
CM’s Remarks
Commending the labour department’s efforts, CM Dhami said, “This campaign reflects our commitment to ensure that workers receive their entitlements promptly. Labourers form the backbone of development, and their welfare will remain a top priority for the government.”
He directed the department to continue handling future applications on a time-bound basis, while also emphasising the need for stronger coordination between workers and industries so that employment opportunities remain steady and small grievances can be resolved without delay.
Officials Present
The event was attended by Minister of State Geeta Rawat, Labour Secretary Shridhar Babu Addanki, Labour Commissioner Prakash Chandra Dumka, and other senior officers. Representatives from HDFC Bank, including Sumit Goyal and Ishan Sharma, also took part in the programme.
Labour department officials assured that similar campaigns will be run in the future to ensure timely disposal of all applications. The Chief Minister also lauded the state’s progress on platforms like the Labour Cess Management Portal and e-Shram Portal, where Uttarakhand has been recognised for its efficiency.
