NAINITAL: In a major development, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated and laid foundation stones for development projects worth ₹112.34 crore at a public programme held at Letibunga ground in Shashabani village of Nainital district. The projects included a total of 17 schemes aimed at improving infrastructure, connectivity, and public facilities across the region, with a focus on long-term development outcomes.
The Chief Minister also visited exhibition stalls set up by women self-help groups and government departments at the venue. He appreciated the locally produced items displayed by women groups and highlighted their role in strengthening the rural economy. He said that women-led initiatives were emerging as a strong pillar of self-reliant development in hill districts.
Our correspondent reports, that during the programme, the Chief Minister announced several new development initiatives for the Bhimtal area. He said that mini stadiums would be constructed in Bheedapani, Nai, Dalkanya, Devnagar, Silauti and Sundarkhal villages. He announced the blacktopping of the Karayal Band Takura forest outpost road in Okhalkanda. He said that the remaining work of canal covering on the Bhimtal bypass would be completed and that new parking facilities and a roadways bus station would be established in Bhimtal. He also announced the opening of a fire station in Bhimtal town.
The Chief Minister further announced road improvement and matching works on the Naukuchiatal Khadki Kharaula road, Kasiyalek Kafli Padiknala road and the Badon Simaliya Sanni motor road. He said that these projects would ease local travel difficulties and improve access to basic services for residents of surrounding villages.
The Chief Minister said that the state government was working continuously for the integrated development of the Bhimtal Assembly and the entire Nainital district. He said that after the local MLA has raised concerns about the poor condition of Main Road 10, immediate action was taken and approximately ₹9.5 crore was sanctioned for its reconstruction. He said that timely infrastructure upgrades were essential for safety and economic activity in hill regions.
Our correspondent further adds that referring to national leadership, the Chief Minister said that under the guidance of Narendra Modi, Uttarakhand was setting new benchmarks in development. He said that rapid infrastructure expansion was taking place in sectors such as roads, education, health and drinking water. He added that redevelopment work at Kainchi Dham, Naina Devi temple, Mukteshwar Dham and other ancient religious sites was being carried out in mission mode.
The Chief Minister said that several state initiatives were contributing to economic revival in rural and hill areas. He said that schemes such as One District Two Products, House of Himalayas, State Millet Mission, Homestay promotion and Wed in Uttarakhand were creating livelihood opportunities. He said that these measures were helping people remain in their native villages and strengthening the local economy.
Our correspondent reports that citing findings from the latest report of the Migration Commission, the Chief Minister said that reverse migration in Uttarakhand had increased by 44 percent. He said that the unemployment rate had declined by 4.4 percent and that the state had secured the first position in the national SDG Index released by NITI Aayog. He said that these indicators reflected the positive impact of sustained policy interventions.
The Chief Minister said that to ensure fair recruitment, the state implemented the country’s strictest anti-cheating law. He said that as a result, more than 26,000 youths had secured government jobs in recent years. He said that over 100 members of cheating networks had been jailed. He added that under the zero-tolerance policy against corruption, vigilance action had been taken against more than 200 government employees.
During the programme, the Chief Minister inaugurated several completed projects, including improvements to the Bhawali bypass parts 1 and 2, Bhimtal bypass road upgrades, a 50-bed critical care unit in Nainital, a library and multipurpose hall at LBS College Haldhuchaur, a cowshed at Puchhri, and library, computer lab and science laboratory facilities at the government school in Jadapani.
He also laid foundation stones for new projects including an examination building at Government Degree College Lalkuan, a boundary wall at Lal Bahadur Shastri College, pool covering and safety works at Gaulapar Stadium, and auditorium construction at Betalghat, Pangot Daichauri and Okhalkanda.
Bhimtal MLA Ram Singh Kaira welcomed the Chief Minister and thanked him for approving multiple development projects for the constituency. He briefed the gathering on ongoing works in the area. Several public representatives, district officials and local residents attended the programme.
