DEHRADUN: In a significant move toward resolving long pending legal fraternity concerns, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday held a detailed meeting in Dehradun with representatives of the Bar Association and the Sangharsh Committee to address issues related to land allocation and construction of lawyers’ chambers. The delegation submitted a memorandum outlining demands linked to the new district court complex and the old district judge premises.

Our correspondent reports that the delegation was led by Premchand Sharma, President of the Sangharsh Committee, and Manmohan Kandwal, President of the Bar Association Dehradun. The delegation raised concerns that the absence of adequate chamber facilities and pending land allocation was hampering their ability to serve litigants effectively. They requested government intervention to facilitate the construction of chambers at both sites under formal state sanction.

The Chief Minister assured the delegation that their concerns would be addressed with urgency. He stated that meaningful dialogue and cooperation were essential for reaching a balanced solution. Our correspondent adds that the Chief Minister further emphasised that the state government valued the contribution of the legal community in strengthening democratic processes. He recalled the active involvement of many advocates during the Uttarakhand statehood movement and said that their commitment to public service remained commendable even today.

He said, “A coordinated approach is always the most effective way to resolve complex issues. The government is fully committed to acting in the best interest of the legal fraternity and the public.” He added that Uttarakhand’s development required collective responsibility and that every decision must account for the state’s financial health.

Our correspondent reports that the Chief Minister announced the formation of a joint committee comprising representatives of the Bar Association and officers of the district administration. The committee will also include an architect. The purpose of the committee is to examine the practical feasibility of the demands and propose a solution that is acceptable to all stakeholders. This step was welcomed by members of the delegation who viewed it as progress toward long awaited reforms.

The Chief Minister said during discussions, “We will take all necessary steps to ensure that lawyers receive proper facilities. The state government will support the construction of chambers, and I urge you to seek additional assistance from Members of Parliament and Members of the Legislative Assembly. This combined effort will help us create a durable and fair solution for everyone involved.” He assured the delegation that he himself would take personal interest in coordinating required approvals.

Our correspondent adds that the Chief Minister confirmed that the recommendations submitted by the District Magistrate, as well as the issues highlighted in the memorandum, would be placed before the state cabinet. The cabinet is expected to evaluate land related and financial aspects before taking a final decision. The Chief Minister reiterated that no delay would occur in processing the key concerns raised by the association.

The delegation expressed satisfaction after receiving assurances from the Chief Minister. They stated that the meeting marked the first concrete step in resolving matters that had been pending for years. Several members expressed appreciation for the transparent approach adopted by the state government and said that hope had been restored for a practical and lasting resolution.

Senior officials present at the meeting included the Secretary to the Chief Minister, the District Magistrate of Dehradun, the Senior Superintendent of Police, and several office bearers of the Bar Association. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to move forward in a spirit of cooperation.
