UKSSSC Inquiry Head Moved by Aspirants’ Accounts

In the ongoing investigation of the UKSSSC paper leak, the commission chairman was reportedly moved to tears after listening to the experiences of affected candidates. The single-member inquiry panel, led by retired Justice U.C. Dhyani, convened hearings in Dehradun to hear detailed accounts from aspirants.

In a public hearing session, several candidates described how they felt betrayed, cheated and uncertain about their futures. Many said they had invested significant time, money and effort into exam preparation, only to face questions around fairness and integrity. Their emotional pleas reportedly brought the inquiry chairman to a visibly emotional state.

Our correspondent reports that the session began with Dhyani inviting a number of witnesses to recount their exam day experience, irregularities they encountered in exam halls, and how the alleged leak has affected their mental health. Some broke into tears themselves while narrating stories of disrupted dreams and financial losses.

One candidate from Haridwar spoke of noticing unusual patterns in question distribution, while another from Tehri claimed an invigilator had ignored his grievances during the exam. Several others demanded that the full list of questions be published publicly if transparency was to be restored.

Our correspondent adds that the public hearing is part of a wider effort to ensure victims’ voices are heard before any report is formalised. The commission is expected to hold similar sessions in multiple districts across the state to gather input from all corners, ensuring the final findings reflect ground realities.

The paper leak at the UKSSSC graduate-level exam held on 21 September has sparked statewide uproar among job aspirants, media attention, protests and demands for strict action. The case involves allegations that certain questions were leaked in a Haridwar centre and circulated via mobile devices. Arrests have already been made, and both SIT and the commission are probing the scandal.

Analysts say the outward emotional reaction by the inquiry head may reflect the depth of pressure and public expectations on the commission. Candidates demand not only accountability but also systemic reforms to prevent such malpractices in future exams.

As the hearings continue, all eyes are on the report to be submitted soon, which may influence cancellation decisions, punitive actions and structural safeguards in recruitment exams.
