In a high-level review meeting held at his official residence in Dehradun on Tuesday, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami directed officials to speed up construction and repair works across the state now that the monsoon season has ended. He instructed departments to ensure visible progress on the ground and complete pending projects without delay.
Our correspondent reports that the Chief Minister placed special focus on roads, stressing that all stretches must be made pothole-free within the stipulated time frame. He said that the Public Works Department (PWD) must not tolerate negligence in either new construction or repair works, as poor quality directly affects daily life and safety for citizens.
Dhami said that the state government is committed to improving connectivity and that damaged roads should be taken up on priority. He emphasised that those areas where frequent complaints are received must be closely monitored, and any shortcomings in execution will be dealt with firmly.
Our correspondent adds that the Chief Minister ordered weekly reviews of the “pothole-free roads” campaign and directed officials to ensure that all patchwork is completed by 31 October. He said that officers should personally visit sites, supervise progress and verify quality standards, rather than relying solely on paperwork.
During the meeting, Dhami reminded officials that post-monsoon months are crucial for speeding up construction, since weather conditions are now favourable. He called upon all departments involved in infrastructure, including irrigation, housing and urban development, to bring momentum to projects that had slowed down during heavy rains.
Our correspondent reports that Dhami also made it clear that accountability will be fixed in case of lapses. He said that the public has high expectations, and it is the government’s duty to ensure that grievances relating to poor road conditions do not persist. He asked for special vigilance in rural areas where roads serve as a lifeline for education, healthcare and local trade.
Officials briefed the Chief Minister about ongoing patchwork and reconstruction drives in different districts. They said that machinery and manpower have already been mobilised to meet the 31 October target. Dhami urged them to coordinate with district magistrates and ensure proper monitoring at the field level.
Our correspondent adds that the Chief Minister linked road improvement to broader economic and social benefits. He said that safe and reliable roads boost tourism, help farmers take their produce to markets on time, and give schoolchildren easier access to education. He added that infrastructure development is not just about concrete and asphalt but about enhancing quality of life.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary R.K. Sudhanshu, Secretary Shailesh Bagoli, Secretary Dr Pankaj Pandey, Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey, Additional Director General of Police A.P. Anshuman, Special Secretary Dr Parag Madhukar Dhakate and Additional Secretary Banshidhar Tiwari.
Our correspondent reports that the Chief Minister concluded by reiterating that the deadline of 31 October is non-negotiable and that citizens should begin to notice improvements on the ground in the coming weeks. He said that the government’s resolve is to provide strong, safe and modern road infrastructure that meets the aspirations of Uttarakhand’s people.
