Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Assembly Speaker Ritu Khanduri Bhushan on Thursday spearheaded a tree plantation programme under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” (One Tree in the Name of Mother) campaign at the state’s summer capital, Gairsain.
Leaders and Officials Join the Campaign
Accompanying them were senior cabinet ministers Satpal Maharaj, Subodh Uniyal, Rekha Arya, and Saurabh Bahuguna, along with Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan, Additional Chief Secretary R.K. Sudhanshu, DGP Deepam Seth, and Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Samir Sinha. Together, they planted saplings as part of the initiative aimed at reinforcing Uttarakhand’s commitment to ecological balance.
Dhami’s Call to Citizens
Chief Minister Dhami appealed to the people of the state to make tree planting a personal responsibility. “Every citizen should plant at least one tree in their lifetime,” he said, emphasising that the campaign is not just symbolic but a significant step towards environmental protection, climate stability, and ensuring a safe future for coming generations.
A Vision for Green Uttarakhand
The “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative underscores the state government’s efforts to integrate community participation with environmental action, reflecting Uttarakhand’s role as both a Devbhoomi (land of the gods) and a state rich in natural heritage.
