Police in Haridwar have arrested Hira Lama, operator of a placement agency based in Okhla, Delhi, in connection with a poisoning incident at a Jwalapur residence. Lama, of Nepalese origin, is believed to be the mastermind behind the plot.
The case involves two women, Anisha Rai and Pushpa, who were recently hired to work at the home of bullion trader Yashpal Malhotra. On 7th August, they allegedly laced tea with a poisonous substance, causing Malhotra, his wife, and grandson to lose consciousness. The burglarly attempt was interrupted when Malhotra’s daughter unexpectedly returned home; the assailants fled the scene before stealing any property.
The incident prompted immediate police action, triggered by a complaint lodged by Malhotra’s son-in-law, Gaurav Kumar. Authorities swiftly launched an investigation, which linked the maids to Lama’s agency—suggesting premeditation and coordination. Using surveillance and investigative leads, the police located and arrested Lama in Delhi.
Police statements confirm that the investigation is ongoing, with teams looking into additional potential suspects and tracing the broader network involved in the incident.
