In a chilling incident of violence, a 25-year-old man was fatally stabbed by his friend after a quarrel over a sum of money. The attack took place inside the victim’s residence in Bahadrabad area of Haridwar. The deceased succumbed to his injuries during treatment at AIIMS Rishikesh. Police said the victim, identified as Saurabh (son of Rajaram), was at home on the first floor when his friend Rohit, who lived nearby, entered his room late Sunday night. A heated argument reportedly erupted over an amount of Rs 1,100. In a sudden escalation, Rohit drew a knife and unleashed multiple blows on Saurabh. The injuries were grievous, and Saurabh collapsed in a pool of blood.
On hearing the commotion, family members rushed upstairs only to find Rohit had already fled the scene. Saurabh was immediately taken to a private hospital and then referred to AIIMS Rishikesh in critical condition. Despite urgent medical intervention, he died late the same night. Our correspondent adds that Saurabh’s mother had alerted the police as soon as she was informed of the attack.
The deceased’s uncle Vivek Kumar lodged a complaint at the Bahadrabad police station, accusing Rohit of cold-blooded murder. Station House Officer Ankur Sharma confirmed that the case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. The police have formed special teams to trace the accused, and efforts are underway to arrest him as soon as possible.
Police officials revealed that the investigation is focussing on forensic evidence, CCTV footage, and witness statements from neighbours. They are also probing whether the dispute was premeditated or spontaneous. Our correspondent reports that a sketch of the suspect may be released shortly to assist the public and law enforcement in identifying Rohit.
Haridwar City Superintendent of Police Pankaj Gairola remarked that such a gruesome act has shocked the local community. He stated that the force will use all resources to bring the perpetrator to justice swiftly. He also appealed to citizens to cooperate by providing any information that could aid in tracking the assailant.
The tragic killing has triggered public indignation and renewed debate over law and order in the region.
