Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday inaugurated the Swachh Utsav 2025 programme, urging citizens to join hands in the state’s cleanliness and environmental drive. The initiative, running from September 17 to October 2, will feature a series of service-oriented cleanliness programmes across Uttarakhand.
Our correspondent reports that the Chief Minister began the programme by offering floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi’s statue, symbolically sweeping the grounds, and administering a pledge of cleanliness to participants. He also flagged off a “Swachhata Rath” and honoured sanitation workers, calling them “environment friends” for their dedicated service.
Marking the occasion, CM Dhami extended heartfelt birthday greetings to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and prayed for his long and healthy life. He also conveyed wishes to the people of Uttarakhand on the occasion of Vishwakarma Jayanti. Our correspondent adds that during the event, he emphasised that under the leadership of the Prime Minister, the nationwide cleanliness movement has gained unprecedented momentum and created a lasting impact.
Highlighting recent achievements, CM Dhami noted that in the National Air Programme’s Swachh Vayu survey, Dehradun Municipal Corporation secured the 19th rank nationally. In the cleanliness ranking, the city moved up to the 62nd position this year, showing a marked improvement compared to previous years. Our correspondent reports that the Chief Minister pointed out significant progress, including the construction of more than six lakh toilets for previously toilet-less households in the state, alongside the establishment of a cleanliness control room in Dehradun for faster resolution of sanitation-related complaints.
Our correspondent adds that CM Dhami also spoke about the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, stressing that plantation drives are not only about improving environmental quality but also about ensuring a healthier future for the coming generations. He appealed to all citizens to consider cleanliness not just as a government initiative but as an integral part of lifestyle and culture.
The event also included plantation drives and recognition of local citizens who actively contribute to environmental preservation. Cabinet ministers Satpal Maharaj, Ganesh Joshi, and Subodh Uniyal, MP Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah, Mayor of Dehradun Saurabh Thapliyal, MLAs Savita Kapoor and Suresh Gadiya, senior officials including Secretary Nitesh Jha, and Municipal Commissioner Namami Bansal were among those present.
With Swachh Utsav 2025, the state government aims to inspire mass participation to realise the vision of a “Clean India, Healthy India.”
