Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reaffirmed the strength of India–US relations and expressed confidence that the ongoing trade negotiations between the two countries will unlock new opportunities for growth and cooperation.
In a message shared on X in response to a post by US President Donald Trump, the Prime Minister described India and the US as “close friends and natural partners.” He emphasised that both nations are working together with the common objective of securing a brighter and more prosperous future for their people.
“India and the US are close friends and natural partners. I am confident that our trade negotiations will pave the way for unlocking the limitless potential of the India–US partnership. Our teams are working to conclude these discussions at the earliest. I am also looking forward to speaking with President Trump. We will work together to secure a brighter, more prosperous future for both our people,”PM Modi said.
The Prime Minister’s remarks come at a crucial stage in trade discussions, which are expected to address a wide range of issues including tariffs, market access, and collaboration in strategic sectors such as defence, technology, and clean energy.
India and the United States share a strong and multi-dimensional relationship, with cooperation spanning defence, counterterrorism, science and technology, education, health, and climate change. Bilateral trade between the two nations has grown steadily over the past decade, crossing the $190 billion mark in 2024. Analysts believe that a comprehensive trade agreement could further boost investments and generate new opportunities in both economies.
Diplomatic observers note that PM Modi’s message reflects New Delhi’s confidence in advancing negotiations despite challenges, while signalling India’s readiness to strengthen ties under the evolving global economic and strategic landscape. The reference to an upcoming conversation with President Trump is being seen as an important step towards finalising understandings at the highest political level.
