The Uttarakhand government has postponed the Char Dham Yatra and Hemkund Sahib Yatra until September 5th after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued red and orange alerts across several districts. Our correspondent reports that the decision was taken in the interest of pilgrim safety, as heavy rains have raised risks of landslides, flash floods, and road blockages.

Pilgrim Safety Top Priority

Our correspondent adds that Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed officials to remain on 24×7 alert mode, ensure constant monitoring of weather conditions, and provide immediate assistance to pilgrims stranded en route. He stressed that protecting human life remains the top priority.

Authorities have set up temporary shelters for devotees in affected districts, while the police and disaster management teams are on standby to respond quickly to emergencies.

Wider Impact of Weather

Heavy rainfall continues to impact normal life across the state, with roads blocked in Chamoli, Rudraprayag, and Pithoragarh. IMD officials have warned of possible further deterioration in conditions, urging residents and visitors to avoid unnecessary travel.
